Transmission and Transfer HELP!
Not sure if this is the right place for this, if it's not, please let me know where I should be asking.
The Plan:
-2JZGTE w/ the supra a340e into my '94 4Runner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where I'm hitting a snag, I'm keeping it auto, and keeping it 4wd. The Fab and Wiring work is already planned, and ready to go, i just need to find a transfer case.
i need an a340f with a top shifted passenger drop transfer. i need both the trans and transfer, as i'm fairly certain the tail shafts will need to be swapped, (i think i already have the correct extension housing).
Any advice on which year/drivetrain i should be looking for, and from what? 4runner, t100, tacoma?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In case your curious, the rest of the build is:
- AEM EMS V2
- 550 cc Injectors
- Single Turbo
- Custom Fuel System, Cell, Pump, Filter, FPR, Stainless Hardlines
- Top Mount Intercooler, fed air through a 3rd gen hoodscoop on my 2nd gen hood.
- Total Chaos LT Front, with King Coils
- Rear Leaf Conversion (for Now, 4-link down the road)
- ARB Lockers Front and Back
- 5.29 R&P
- Rear Disc Conversion, All New Brake Lines Front and Rear (SS Hardlines)
This is two years in the making, planning, and staring at parts diagrams and the FSM. The entire trucks been stripped, frame cleaned up, new mounts for everything welded on, new crossmembers to replace some rotted ones, parts are piling up, it's almost time to start putting it back together!

You wouldn't want a Tacoma or 96+ 4Runner transfer case, since those are all driver's side drop. And AFAIK no T100s came with a 22R-E and/or an A340F transmission. So, I'm gonna say 85-95 Truck or 4Runner. Based on the facts that those years could have had a 22R-E. Because, from what I understand, an A340F was only found behind a 22R-E. And, more importantly, all 85-95 Trucks and 4Runners have passenger side drop t-cases.

all of the mini truck and 4runners up to 1996 used the A340H...you can't use it. I believe the T100's used the A340F and they have the correct drop you need.
If you can't find a donor Inchworm gear has a prerunner adapter that will adapt the A340e to use with the standard passenger drop Toyota gear driven transfer case. They even offer it in 21 or 23 spline. This is what I did with my 1uz/a340e swap into my 89 pickup and have no issues.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the a340f uses a chain driven case right?
which is better, the chain or gear driven cases, how much do they go for used usually, and is one easier to find than the other?
thanks for all the help

All, except those with 22R-Es, which had A340Fs.
See page AT-99 http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...27descript.pdf
and page AT-165 http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...41descript.pdf
Based on what?
You're correct.
It depends on what you want from your transfer case which is "better". Out of the box, a chain drive t-case has lower granny gears. But they can't be swapped out for even lower aftermarket granny gears like a gear drive's can(since they don't exist for chain drives). But that, and/or needing/wanting to run dual or triple transfer cases(which you can't do with a chain drive), are really the only good reasons to choose a gear drive over a chain drive t-case. IOW, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a chain drive t-case, especially if you plan on leaving it stock(since...that's all you can do with one).
