Ect ecu question!!!
Ok let's see if there is a wiring guru out there. Here is my dilemma, I am swapping a 5mge for my 3.slow. I have an auto trans (A340H) and in my 91 4runner the engine and trans ECU is all one unit. So my question is could I use a ECT ECU off of an older 4runner (3vze or 22re)? Any and all thoughts on this subject are welcome!

You should be able to use the older ect ecu as long as it has the same number of shift solenoid inputs as your transmission and the same outputs that the 5M-GE ECU is looking for. Depending on the auto, some Toyota trannies had 3 solenoids, some had 4, with one sometimes being for a lock-up torque converter.

The trans was a A340e that was on the 88 cressida (3 solenoids) and uses the same torque converter as my A340h in my 91 4runner. I got a ECT from a 88 4runner and will use that to controll the trans. I will be posting a complete write-up when finished.
