1uzfe transmission options

over the past year i have gathered a small collection of yota parts and resources so i have a lot of options but am looking to spend as little as i have to and would like to keep auto,4wd, and my factory cluster as the ls400 cluster i have doesnt light up and the fuel gauge is out.

my base is a 91 4R and a complete 90 LS400 (minus driver side windows)
I am looking for the most cost effective method to swap in the 1uz

I have:
the factory auto lexus trans which shifts well.
a340h shifted well when removed but has cut harnesses now
g52 with transfer never ran it but looked fine when i had it apart
w56 with transfer drives ok but 3rd gear seems iffy on downshifting
w55 runs good but 2wd
w46 runs good but 4 spd and short final drive
r150 with transfer never ran but loos to have been rebuilt and is clean

As most everyone knows the lexus trans are all setup for IRS using a 3 bolt flange with vibration damper.
I assume with a little bit of time with a caliper, and some cad software i could have a 3 to 4 bolt adapter made for around $75
I could just bolt a drive shaft to this that would be great but i wouldn't have a speed/odometer as mine is cable driven, nor would i have 4wd

The Inchworm adapter to take the lex trans to 4cyl transfer case
was my primary option but i have recently heard they are no longer supporting the 21 spline input shaft coupler:

Inchworm website is all wrong. false advertisement if u ask me...
If this is the case than cost would be

adapter $700+40 for shipping
23 spline input shaft $180+~20 shipping
and having to tear apart my transfer case

or use the case behind my r150 which is 23 spline but not sure if they bolt up the same

my next option is the thai company KsRacing who sells trans swap kits which are higher up in the price range but are complete:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...using&_sacat=0

problems with this:
its kind of pricey $1100-$1280 depending on the clutch
it looks as if the slave cylinder is in line with the exhaust on the right side.. i would think that this would melt the seals in the slave. i guess header wrap would stop this.
no speed sensor for lexus ecu ive heard conflicting info on if this is needed or not.

3rd option
take input section from the lexus trans and install in a340h. cebby started going for this but ended up going with an a340f i believe

anyone can chime in on this as i can not find any solid information on this.

upside: the cost is practically free
downside:
a340h is a power and mpg sucker.
ecu will not communicate correctly with this trans

so with what i have, whats my best option here?

oh an everything is for sale: toledo, ohio make offer...

The easiest option is to find a T-100 auto transmission and transfer case from a 3.4 liter equipped truck(95-97). It has the A340F transmission and the transfer case drop is where you need it to be. You will only actually use the output portion of the tranny so if the rest of it is no good or has high miles it's ok. You have to remove the 3 bolt flange from the lexus tranny and unbolt the tail housing. You will need to cut the output shaft at the correct length but then you can just bolt up the t-100 output with the transfer case right to it. you may also want to use the t-100 tranny fluid pan because it holds at least a quart more than the Lexus pan does.

I should rename this to serg's build thread... great info though.

toyminator thanks for the tip, I will keep my eye out for the 340f is it only those specific years t100?

do you know why cebby didnt stick with the 340h?

Pretty sure those were the only years. It had to have the 5vz engine. The earlier ones had the 3vz 3.0 and the same A340h that you already have. 5vz equipped 4runners and tacomas had the transfer case drop on the wrong side.

Not quite sure why Cebby didn't keep the A340H but he would have had issues with it communicating with the Lexus ECM properly. The input shaft on the oil pump was shorter too but I think he was able to swap it with the Lexus transmission. The A340H has it's transfer case married to the transmission and they shared fluid, not very desirable and difficult to upgrade later.

this would be your best option considering inchworms incomplete kit. this will be a little work but on the positive note, you wont have to deal with driveshaft mod and cutting your floor board. if i didnt live in cali and didnt have to smog, then i would have went with a 5spd and ksracing would have gotten my business...

i have been looking around the local yards for the 95-97 t100 trans. i found 1 (only) that was $550 for the trans and 4 something for the case. At that I may as well go for the kit (IW), i already have a 2 inch shorter auto drive shaft, and 2 4cyl cases.

could go all pre-runner $200 or less to combine shafts..

just really hate to go thru the effort to swap in the uz and not be 4wd.

this 22r/tbi is ok but poor power and 16 mpg just sucks

car-part.com list a bunch of them in the Ohio area. Some even had close to 300k miles, which would be perfect for you since you don't actually need the tranny to work.

will i still be able to use the tail section like with the t100 trans or are the inputs different?

well after driving 100 miles to get the 4cyl trans. I did a little more research and found that the outputs are said to be different from the 5vz models. I have not confirmed this yet with my own eyes. if so I will have to swap the shaft also or swap the 341 input section to the 340f

so i believe serg is saying they are all the same on the inside.

but i dont understand the part number provided it leads to a land cruiser transfer adapter. does that one take the lex tranny to the 4cyl case?
