1uz swap into 90 pickup

ok heres some background on this swap i'm doing. I bought a 90 pickup with the 3.0L for a $1000. Well come to find out, it had a blown head gasket. I knew the motor wasn't what i wanted, so i started searching for motor swaps on the forums. i found a few swaps using the 1uz. The hp, torque, and mpg all matched up with what i wanted. So, i started gathering parts last year and i am now in the process of putting the 1uz in the truck. feel free to comment or suggest another route to do something. I'm sure there are better ways to do this. This is the truck i started with. I added a 2 inch body lift, so i could fit the motor with less headaches. lol Name: untitled5.jpg

The drivers side header won't fit unless you hack it up. The Tundra Manifolds will work to clear the steering but the outlet will have to be modified to fit.

ok good. I'll put the ebay headers on the tundra and put the manifolds on the 1uz. My brother said will weld anything if i need it, so i guess he will be finishing the headers when it comes time for that. lol

nice famers tan....
you can make the stock ls manifolds fit, but if you have tundra manifolds, don't even bother with the ls ones.

ok first thats my Dad in that pic. My Dad is awesome by the way. Secondly, the ls manifold were destroyed when the motor was pulled. I had to get a different set anyway, so i went the easiest and cheapest route. EBAY!

well tell him nice tan... i am sure he is, if he's helpin you with your swap ..
ebay is good or you can use car-part.com to locate some tundra manifolds in your local
wrecking yards..but you have a tundra so yeah..?
what route you going for drivedrain? this is were most of the money is spent on these swaps, unless your good with auto-cad and have access to a cnc laithe. or have an extra tundra a340 with a transfer case on it lyin around. then your set.

I'm using the A340E from the lexus and bolting it to a gear driven tcase. I had the tcase long before i had the motor, so it was the easiest route. i have to get the 4.7 gears in the case and then i start work on mounting the tcase to the transmission. I have the prerunner adapter kit from inchworm, so it shouldn't be too hard. I will be sure to measure 50 times and cut once for the tranny output shaft. lol

looking good man ..

so you already have the pre runner adapter..
i tried ordering another one a couple weeks ago .. they told me they are back ordered 2 months on the adapters.

you will need to make a spacer and add it to the coupler if not the coupler will just slide back and forth freely.

good luck man ..

EDIT : thats for the 23/21 coupler

i have the 23/23 coupler and they provide a spacer with the kit now. I got my kit either end of last year or beginning of this year. I've been collecting parts for a long time. I've researching the swap for even longer. I'm just hoping i can remember everything i learned lol. btw - i read your whole thread RMA. cebby and your swap was the reason i decided to go this route. I'll working on the truck tonight, so more pics tonight.

You will need a 2nd spacer. If its allowed to slide back it could potentially be only using about 1/4 of spline. All it is is a piece of .120 DOM (can't remember diameter).

yea I've been saving up for awhile. I'm trying to do everything to this truck as once. I have my SAS kit and i think i have most of the parts for the motor swap. o btw, toyminator and i have been discussing whether a pair of 3vze ignitors will work for the 1uz. they have the same part numbers. I'm working on gettin the 1uz wiring worked out this week and I'm gonna try to get the trucks wiring fixed as well.

well if the ignitors have the same part number then they should work .i never even thought to look to see if they were the same .
if you need any let me know i have about a dozen of them from ls 400's and sc 400's

by the way put as big an oil cooler you can fit for the tranny , if you can afford one with a fan get it .

my temp on my tranny oil went up to 250 this weekend , so im taking the one i have right now and am gonna use it for the power steering and getting one with a fan for the tranny.

tdcl would be the round check connector thats inside the car under the dash. used to plug in diagnostic equipment to.
ISC is the idle speed control valve .. top center front of engine has a hose from the plastic intake connected to it .. used for idle when the engine is cold.
good luck man ..

well i forgot to mention that when i took off the intake that the egr stuff had stopped working. glad i'm doing the egr delete lol. there was carbon all in the intake. I was also wanting to see if i can turn the top plenum around so i can use my stock air box. Does anyone see any issues with this idea? Only problem i see is with the vaccum hoses. i can lengthen those pretty easily(i hope). it would save me the trouble of moving the battery around.

funny thing is it fits either way.. i noticed that when i hade mine off....
i was able to wire the engine in using all the factory relays. i hade the ends of my old 3.0
i had cut them about 6" down from the plugg so i could mat them with the 1uz harness, worked great and clean too.
rma used alot of the stock stuff where as i got rid of everything and only using the bare min. i have a pretty good cheat sheet i made for the harness, but its deff. time consuming..
all i have left to do is wire in the fuel pump relay, the 3.0 setup wont work.
this is an easy one though.

well i you wondering what to keep and what you can ditch i can help yah, but wait till i get mine running with exhaust and coolant so i can make sure theres issues.
