You never came back to your SC400 vs LS400 comment, I know the front sump on the LS400 makes it better for IFS, the headers need work for both of them, but what else?

SC400 vs LS400
Oil Pan - LS400 uses a front sump, which is good for an IFS truck. The SC400 is a rear sump and works well with a solid axle. There is also a mid sump oil pan from the 2uz that was installed on Landcruisers that works great for solid axle trucks if you can find one. You also need the oil pump pickup and dipstick tube for whatever sump you use.
Oil filter. The LS400's oil filter adapter sticks out farther and will interfere with the frame. The SC400 will work fine if you carefully position the motor. Some swaps use an aftermarket remote oil filter.
Power Steering Pump. The LS400 has its fluid resevoir built right on to the pump. This works well for a street driven truck. The SC400 uses a remote mounted resevoir similar to the 22re. If you want to use a hydro assist ram you need The SC400 pump and use a larger aftermarket resevoir.
Exhaust Manifolds. The LS400's won't fit between the frame rails of the truck. The SC400's will fit but you will likely need to modify the flanges for frame and firewall clearance. You can also use Tundra exhaust manifolds but I believe they also need to be modified at the flange. I tried fitting a set of Tundra aftermarket headers and the passenger one actually fit fine but the drives side interferes with the steering shaft. you would need to heavily modify one of the header tubes to get them to fit. I plan on eventually doing this.
Cooling Fan. The LS400 uses a combination of electric fans and a standard clutch fan to draw air through the radiator. None of them will fit but you need the idler bracket from this engine or buy an aftermarket Tundra idler braket so you can use an aftermarker electric cooling fan. The SC400 uses a hydraulicly controlled cooling fan that has a pump built into the idler pulley. The fan won't fit in the truck and the idler pump bracket can't be used.
Fuel Injectors. The SC400 has bigger fuel injectors and makes a bit more horsepower than the LS400 but both will work. I've even seen people use even larger Supra TT injectors.

to chime in a little toyminator.. you can use an ls400 oil filter mount, all i did was go to the auto parts store with my factory toyota filter and found a shorter one with the same width and thread pitch...
if you look through rma's thread he found a belt that works to delete the ac, and use all the other pulleys. i am using this same belt with no issues.
mlrtime it really depends on your fab skills for the exhaust. i made my ls manifolds fit but it took a lot of reworking on the driver side to make it clear.

I have no problem fabbing up some custom headers, I had a good line on a donor sc400 today and even though I'm officially putting a stop to garage time labor day (in AZ our off season is summer when it's too hot to ride) I was VERY tempted to snag it. I do want to keep the IFS though so it sounds like the LS would be a better donor all around. Thanks guys.

I am willing to trade you an LS400 oil pan, sump and dipstick for your SC400 one if you want.

yea ive had no problems with the belt .. but the tensioner is closer to the end of it tensioning
plus there is a couple different ways of installing the belt , some work better than others , i think .
whats the part number for the 1" shorter belt Toyminator..
always good to have ..

this truck is bad ass and your thread is helping me with starting my swap. I have a 95 4 runner and can pick up 90-95 1uzfe swaps from the local yards for 4-5 hundred. the one thing that i want to know is what is the best year engine to run in my truck? I live in cali also so it will have to pass smog. I want to run the 98-01 1uzfe cause it has the most horsepower and torque but i dont see anyone doing it or im just not looking in the rt place.

I kept the cardboard that was wrapped around it but its buried in the garage somewhere. I'll post it when I dig it out.
The 98-01 have the most horsepower because they are vvti engines. Also, anything newer than 1995 will have OBDII emissions standards and require a lot more planning and equipment to run right. the older ones will usually run fine just by unplugging all that crap but I doubt the newer ones will. Other than that they are pretty much the same from 1989-1995. There are the differences between the two cars they came in but there were also options like traction control, and california emissions equipment that are possible to have too.

cool thanks .. The part number should be on the new belt also , in case you dont find the cardboard.
and about the oil pans .. the tundra has the midsump also .
and i thought the sc was the "better " donor for the solid axle ..

Subbed! Thanks for all the great info, however your build thread scares me LOL lots of custom fab work. I will be swapping the 1uz into a 93 4Runner, trying to research if I will have to do as much fab work also.
Thanks again for all of your help.

Lookie what the DHL guy brought me today!
I've been gathering the parts for my next swap since I sold some stuff from the donor car. I went automatic and duals on the 1st on but I'm gonna try 5spd and single t-case with 4 to 1 gears. its an 88 SR5 4Runner.

Yes it's the KS Racing one from Thailand. It seems like a pretty stout piece. I'm gonna try to fit it up to an R series tranny this weekend.
Basically all the bodywork is done except for the bed and I hope to get most of it done this weekend. Then its off to a buddy's shop for paint. I still don't have the driveshafts that I ordered a month ago but I haven't really need them anyway. I'm gonna do an exo cage too before I take it wheeling but it should be drivable in a few weeks.
