ORS 3.4 swap instructions

3.0 automatic to 3.4 manual
I recently purchased a 94 4 Runner that I would like to do the 3.4 swap. I have found a 96 3.4 with Manual trans and transfer case. Can they be made to work in my 94? What problems might I encounter? Is there anyone out there building an installation kit? I have lots of questions.

What people need to understand is that w/ the 2RZ, 3RZ, and 5VZ, Toyota had A LOT of different vendors making the harnesses. Add that to the different year models, updates, versions. Then you've got THOUSANDS of combination possibilities. Giving Mike the serial # off your ECM & harness, then your year model... that's when the real research begins. Sure, you're not getting much actual wiring. What you're paying for is the knowledge and the simplification of the wiring. If you're a wiring moron like me, then you'll gladly pay someone $600 for their time. And yeah, Mike is a class act. I'm supposed to call him when I get my 85' 4Runner w/ my 96' 3RZ up and running. Everytime I'm just about to get it running, something goes wrong . Hopefully I'll have it running saturday.

BTW... If you need anything that ORS used to sell, email me directly. I will forward the email to Brian a friend of Mike's from ORS, who might still be a sales channel for stuff they might have. They at least will still do wiring harnesses!
My email is molly (dot) houck (at) gmail.com

Hey Molly,
So I am about to start my swap using one of ORS's full conversion kits (I got it right before ORS went away). If I have any problems with the swap or the harness can I email you and have you pass it on to Mike?
Thanks so much,
Brett

Post Swap Question for Mike
Hope this gets to Mike I have been studying the Yotatech and Pirate Boards looking for an answer but so far I am stumped. Overall I am really pleased with the swap, started after the third turn of the key and has started everytime since then. My only difficulty is my temp gauge. I know the one in my cluster was good and worked well with my 3.0 but I am getting no response at all from the 3.4 motor. So that leads me to believe it is either the sender or some aspect of the wiring with the ORS harness is not allowing the gauge to communicate with the sender. Before I twist off and buy a new sender is there anything else that I can trouble shoot? Here are a few details concerning the swap: 1994 m/t 4Runner with a good running 3.0 which was swapped for a 1999 m/t 3.4 from a Tacoma using the full ORS kit. Any ideas? Would a scan gauge II be able to read anything if plugged into the OBD II port?
I also welcome any other ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue. Driving around without a working temp guage makes me pretty nervous.
If someone could forward this on to Mike if they have another contact I would really appreciate it. I already tried the sales@offroadsolutions address.
Thanks for the help.

On the dash gauge, are you sure the wiring didn't get damaged from the sender? Its one of those in the rear near the firewall (I think). If you get up to Edmond I'll hook up my OBDII connection for you. Good luck

Just ordered an OBD II scanner last night. Amazon was running a special so I snatched one up. Right now it is at the exhaust shop I will go by there today after work and see what kind of progress he is making and take a look for the sensor on the back. I had located the front one but I just could not find the location for the other sender.
Mt. Goat thanks for the info, I will try to give you the time when I am headed up to Auto Air, my swap will seem rather tame compared to yours.

Mike has now posted his 3.4 swap instructions on his old website:
http://www.offroadsolutions.com/tech.html#engine
These were previously only available to people who purchased his full conversion kit. I guess now that he is "out of business" he is sharing them with everyone. Mike is a good guy!

Might want to Un sticky this.. It is a waste of a read.. no instructions available apparently. I know that there are a million threads, I (and may others) have read through hundreds of them. I agree some great info, but also a lot of conflicting info..

I need help! Trying to find headers for my 1997 t100 3.4 swap into my 1994 pick up, just tried installing the JBA headers for the '97 and it didn't fit into my '94. Kept getting hung up on the clutch slave, to tight. Anyone know a set of headers that will fit this application? Thanks!
