irab88 adds another liter: 22R-EC to 5VZ-FE

Sweet, thanks for that pic. I guess it did motivate me, because I got home quickly and started back at it. I managed to pull the 3.4 and start clearing out stuff from the 2.4 engine bay. I got a lot done. I would have gotten on to more, but I had to make a quick run to lowes to get bolts to hold the 3.4 to the engine stand. M12x1.25, 80mm worked for me, McMaster Carr has them much cheaper, but I didn't feel like waiting

last thing that was plugged into the main harness
disconnected the fuel. i used foam earplugs to block the passages
and then...
then i turned to the truck. i got a lot done, but i still have plenty to do
for pulling the header off, it wouldn't just slide over the studs. i used a stud-tool that i found (mostly by accident) on ebay. snug it down by hand, tighten the allen screw, then slowly back the stud out. it saved me from using pliers or welding anything to get them out, and it won't damage the threads if i need to put new studs in.
and done for the night
removed: radiator, intake, battery, fan, exhaust, throttle cable, (some) wiring, and heater lines.
left to remove: power steering, a/c, fuel, main harness, and transmission.

thanks
after searching around for a bit, i've decided to make my 3.4 exhaust crossover like this. it combines the 2 pipes before the downpipe, so there should be more clearance between the firewall and head. also, i won't have to deal with trying to get the pipes out of that dual-pipe flange

That looks really good. Are you planning on doing a heat wrap or some other type of heat shield? I don't know what you're going to have close to your crossover pipe but I was just curious. Is the heat not as much of an issue with a manual tranny than it is with an auto?

not sure on the heat issue
yesterday i got the 22r-e pulled. there are a lot more wires and cable bundles than on the 3.4
i should have done this to fix the timing chain guide
steering pump bracket was missing a bolt here on the timing cover. there was a lot of oil around there
i'll start selling parts off of it soon enough (headers, accessories, intake, valve cover, oil pan/pickup, etc)

Great thread. Got me excited bout my swap I'm in process of getting things together. I am a lil stumped on what I can get rid of in my engine bay for my 22re. I think I can just take out everything and put the 3.4 stuff in but not sure. Anyway good luck on ur swap can't wait to see the end
