Please Help....Electrical Problem with '97 4Runner

alright, i'm visiting my family and i was out driving my cousins '97 4runner and we pulled back into his house, and after turning the car off, this high-pitch noise started coming from the area of the fuse box. i opened up the hood and the noise was almost unbearable. after not being able to figure out what was causing it, i just disconnected the battery and the noise slowly dissipated. then we tried restarting it(after reconnecting the battery) and now it won't even turn over. i've got a 2nd gen. and am not THAT familiar with the electrical workings of the 3.4. if anyone has any idea what might be causing this very unpleasant high pitch noise and inablility to start the car please give me some heads up on what to do. he's got a system hooked up but other than that it is a stock '97 4runner.....please help me out

Are you sure its coming from the fuse block? I've not heard of electrical items creating high pitch noises.

ok, well we've narrowed it down to the security system and since last night the noise is gone and the car is running fine again. i'm not sure what was going on with it, and thank you, i know that the electronics themselves weren't making the noise, but it seemed to be an "electrical" shortage with something that was causing the security system to be making the noise.

I once sunk my truck in a good bit of mud, after that, the alarm was always pretty wiggy. One of the symptoms was that the piezo "chirper" would constantly scream. The chirper is the thing that causes the "chirp chirp" when you lock/unlock the truck. It's under the hood, near the fuse box, and sitting kinda' loose wrapped up in a small piece of black/grey foam.

I eventually replaced the system with an aftermarket one, but in the meantime, I just cut the chirper off.
