05 4runner with creaking sound in rear passenger area?

Everytime when I drive slowly or run over tiny bumps on the road, i hear this creaking sound coming from the rear passenger side near the rear window in the trunk area. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what is the issue?

I have an 05 SE v6.

thanks...

It's kinda an "errr" "errr" sound

maybe a loose panel? since its an 05, i'd take it back to the dealer and complain, they should diagnose it and fix it for you no charge.

is it definitely interior? could it be some grit in your springs? or...you have a stow area, right? anything loose in there?

i had this problem a few weeks ago too. turned out to be a loose body mount bolt. unlikely in your rig, but something to check.

Have you had a passenger ride in the back and try to find the squeak?

Might be the latch on the rear seat back. My 03' had a noise like that and I wrapped a piece of electrical tape around the catch piece for the latch; that fixed it.

Thanks for all your replies...

>>>photoleif "is it definitely interior? could it be some grit in your springs? or...you have a stow area, right? anything loose in there?"

Yes. it really sounds like the inside.

This is the passenger side rear.

>>>Bluto "Have you had a passenger ride in the back and try to find the squeak? "

Yes it does. I tried to have her find it, but she couldn't.

Ya. Worth a try. However, doesn't Toyota have a permanent fix for this. I did a search and it looked like a few of you have had this. Not sure if it is a widespread problem. It's just irritating

I've been having the same problem on my 03. I would get a creaking sound whenever I went over uneven ground (like turning to drive up a driveway at an angle). I narrowed it down to the rear seat latch. I tried driving around with the rear seats folded down and the sound completely went away. I'm going to try fixing it using the suggestion by HuntRunner with the electrical tape around the latch. Hopefully that will do the trick.

i think i'll try the electrical tape thing...

Isn't this an issue that Toyota should resolve...and not for us to use the primitive electical tape.?
