Great thread and reminds me of how lazy I have been at putting together my onboard gear storage system. My trouble is I have changed vehicles so often I got tired of redoing it every time. That and I am a tech that has to carry a bunch of tools and never seem to have enough room anyway. But I am going to do it now. I am inspired. Will rig out Cass's new ride too.

I was not a boyscout (unfortunately) but being from Alaska my stepdad used to drive semi's in the arctic and he always carried everything... kindoff got in my blood.

Besides the CB, Hi-Lift, air, gas cans and fluids I carry what I think of as the basic shown here..



I need to add spare parts such as CV, belts, ...not completely sure yet on the parts list for an FJ Cruiser... Ideas?

Well, that's about all I can remember right now.. not much but its a start, and it all goes in my boy scout box

wow you guys carry some serious gear!!!....i just have a regular cab so not as much space plus all that gear would really affect the gas mileage...lol....i just carry basic things on a daily basis like jumper cables, tow strap, flashlight, multitool, and tie down straps

Since starting this thread I also carry

-tree trimmers (the ones that cut limbs like a bolt cutter) so much easier than the hatchet on those really thick trees wher you can't get a decent swing.
-flagging tape, easy way to mark your way back (keep it in the back pack)

sorry everyone seems to be kinda touchy about posting in old threads on here....maybe the mods should just delete them after 6 months....just an idea....i mean keep the sticky threads for info but get rid of the rest...i never understood why forums don't do that...once again sorry for bringing up the past threads

I am not sure why people get touchy about it either. Unless it is like a for sale add or something useless from 5 years ago, adding to and continuing threads or even answering questions helps people in searches later on since more info will be in one thread.
In this instance, there would be no point making a new thread for this, and all it shows is that you are reading posts and searching unlike 85% of the users on here.

Heck even the rules agree with you;
"It is ALWAYS better to add on to an existing thread (if the information is pertinent) than to start another with the same information.
This makes it easier for the next person with fewer threads to pour over to gather their information."

Hey buddy, I was just fooling around. I actually started this thread and I was just surprised to see it pop back up.

I can't speak for everyone but I dont really care how old a thread is, and stuff like this one are nice to keep going. I like to have a good time, so I made a silly remark. Trust me when I say this is a very friendly forum we have here.

Now if you want to see mean join Pirate, those guys are ruthless!!

well not this thread but in another one scuba steve made a post and said it was worthless to revive an old thread to say what i said and then they closed the thread...lol...it was a product review of the "pops a dent" product....i was like ok why not delete the whole thread then and get rid of it?...not a big deal really...i've seen alot worse...thx for agreeing with me

i barely carry anything in my truck. jumper cables, ratchet set and metric wrenches, and water in a milk jug and nothing else lol. i also never have a spare in the truck, cept when i wheel or if im driving far

Yeah when I got my taco I stopped carrying a lot of my gear, not a lot of places to keep it. Then I got my tool box and now I carry gear again.

In a somewhat related/unrelated note...

I just bought a 1999 4Runner and have been doing the usaual checking it out...

I opened up the compartment in the cargo bay and found nothing in there...
You know the compartment on the right hand side when you open up the hatch in the back.

What is supposed to be in there and what is it called so that I can reorder it online?
If anyone happens to have a picture that would be awesom.

I have searched a ton and this is the closest I have found to answer my question. Also, no firends own 4Runners, only Jeeps so they have no clue either.

Mine also came empty, as far as i know nothing comes in there from the factory. I know i have never seen anything in there.

You guys carry this stuff on a daily basis? Why? Where are you going that you are going to need an axe and food rations? Heck I usually do not carry a spare! LOL!
