So I'm sorry I never posted what my final decision was. I ended up doing a solid axle swap. love it but there have been a few issues that im coming across now.

First off heres a pic of the truck after the swap.






I went with the wabbits 5 inch kit and did chevys for the rear and now im to tall. I need to find a way to lower it back down 2 inches so i can put 35s on the truck without exceeding lift laws in maine. the truck is sitting on 31s at the moment.

frame is 27 inches from ground in front 29 inches in rear the absolute max allowed in maine.

Is there any way i can drop it back down a bit without buying new spring packs. the rear i have adjustable shackles in the rear so it will be easier.

Take a leaf or get a shorter shackle.

That sucks yall have lift laws in Maine. But yeah id suggest getting adjustable shackles for the front and adjust them as needed.

I was weary of doing a shackle adjustment in the front it seemed pretty short already to me. i dont want to bind things up. they are the shackles that come in the wabbits kit. and im not sure i can get 2 inches down out of it.

Wabbits kit is just the universal Trail-gear kit. Try pulling a leaf out, or search RUF springs. Your shackle angle looks good for the springs, so a flatter spring may require moving the front hanger forward or shorter shackles anyway.

If you wanted it to sit lower, then why did you get the 5" kit?

If you take a closer picture of the shackle angle, that would be helpful. Maybe removing a leaf is the better way to go.

I did the 5 inch kit because i expected it to go up 5 inches. it ended up going up almost a foot. i guess my torsion bars were really sagging before the lift. when im home this weekend ill take a picture of the shackle angle. if i take out a leaf which one would you suggest out of the pack?

Probably the shortest, better pictures of your problem will net you better answers.

He posted pics. Its a 5" lift, hes now trying to lower it.

The springs lift 5", the hanger and shackle give you 1, the axle gives you 2ish..

Your springs are brand new, so they may be more than 5" right now but will settle some after being broken in.

How many leafs in the pack? You could pull a leaf or 2.

ill take some more pictures tomorrow and see what i can possibly do the springs have sagged out over the last 6 months to exactly lift maximum. it has quite a few leafs in the front ill get an exact count and pics in the am tomorrow and see what i can take out.

hopefully the money for rims with some good off set and a set of 35s will come soon so that i can really get this thing back on the road.

later down the road i plan on putting the om 617 in the truck so with the heavier motor maybe i can put the leafs back in then....

I have a 98 4runner trd supercharger with 6" ifs lift 33's lockers .can fit 35's no problem and it handles great on road and back woods, mud, whatever I give it. Reading a lot of negative stuff about ifs lifts.. If done correctly you couldn't be more happy with it. I'm looking to do a sas only cause I'm looking to run a larger 37" tire now and this would be to much on it

My 2 cents...I started out ifs and went as far as my budget could let me go...eventually it will get Blazeland long travel...Now im doing a sas 87 truck with 4.3 swap toyota drivetrain...I love my ifs runner for a dd or camping,mild wheeling..(basically cause im tryin too keep the body straight).Its a toss up but i think you can get better results with my budget going sas. Plus all depends on how fat your wallet is.

Ifs is great for daily driving and mild wheeling as previously stated, once you start doing a lot of mud or hardcore trails its a lot more expensive than sas to maintain. I have seen a few wheels break off of ifs rigs on the trail, and a lot of steering issues.

so its been a crazy couple of months. cannot seem to get any time to work on the truck or on anything else for that matter. but heres where im at now. i have removed a leaf from the front and im at 26 ground clearance too the frame i have to be at 25 at most. running out of ideas... heres some pictures.

Put some miles on the truck if you haven't. Does the truck have to go thru an inspection? If so load it up with a bunch of sandbags lol.

Weld some metal to the bottom of the hanger to make it be 25"? haha.

unfortunately it does have to go through inspection as it is my daily driver and woods rig. unfortunately here in maine it is supposed to be measured at the frame where the bumper mounts. so where i measured it is a judgement call as is let alone welding something in to make it lower. I think for now im gonna wait till i finish the rust repair work on the bed and put it back on and see exactly where i sit. i also have put about 2000 miles on the truck since the SAS

does any one think that i can remove any more leafs and if so which ones.
like you can see the shackle out front is wicked short as is and i dont really have money for new springs anytime in the near future as im currently a full time student.
