4runner SAS - Lowest Possible Lift

Hey guys,

I have a 1992 4runner that I'm debating a SAS on. This is a whole new thing for me and I have a few questions.

1 - How is the ride on the highway? I drive A LOT on the highway, and I need it to be stable and easy to drive. I don't want to be fighting the wheel for hours at a time.

2 - I want to do the swap, but I don't need a HUGE lift. I want minimal lift, just enough to squeeze 33's or maybe 35's under. The goal is to make it look like Toyota rolled out this SFA from the factory.. with 33's

3 - What do I do with the rear end? Can I leave it coil springs? I'm not doing this for insane wheeling, I'm doing it to simplify the maintenance on the front end. I've had so many problems with IFS in the past, so I'm looking to make this a bit easier to maintain.

Sorry for all the newb questions... I'm just a bit confused about this whole thing.

Check out toyospears build. His is low on 33's.
There are several others like it also.
For some reason when you search "low solid axle swap" the trucks are on 38"s if not bigger.

Yeah, Toyospearo is the one that got me thinking about this.

I searched for low solid axle swap... and you're right, most have 38's

This was a concern of mine and why I did not go with an off the shelf SAS kit. But had to do lots of research and measuring and comparing frame dimensions with castor angles in relation to spring perches.

The draw back of a low front SAS is limited up travel. The solution I've seen is pneumatic bump stops.

I'm happy with set up, but hate when front bottoms out. Though ride is not as smooth as IFS but I kinda like that but also changed driving styles from when I drive our turbo'd VW and my 4rnr.

My opinion is if your not going to wheel it to make the SAS worth while than rebuild IFS.

muddpigg has a pretty nice 4Runner, his advice would be something to consider.

Weird.

Could do spring under with shackles in the front FJ style. They seem to sit pretty low.

In for the advice/info, as I am in the same boat. Went wheelin in the snow yesterday... something in the front end (94 4runner) popped and it quit pulling. Not even gonna inspect it since I have an 84 axle sitting in the shop already. Just gotta gather gears/brakes/etc.

another thing to consider are spring sliders. they take the place of a normal shackle, but sit ~4 inches lower

eatatjoes has a nice 90's (pickup) that sits really low and looks great

I built mine as low as possible. I am going to go up to clear bigger tires soon but I frenched in the front hanger, shackles through the frame, Toyota main leaf YJ leafs underneath. I am about 3" taller than stock as it sits on 35's.
