Im afraid my rig isnt built enough to travel the trail . I dont wanna be winching the whole way lol. I would love some info and maybe some links to some info on the trail . I googled it and the info is really weak so im turning to you guys . Thanks

i've heard of it before, but never knew you could drive on it. always thought it was a hiking/biking/horse trail only, and not for vehicles. anyways, from the pics it looks VERY tame - like 2wd fire road tame.
i believe Genoa Peak trail shares some of the same route and you will find much more info since this is the one vehicles drive on. Pretty sure the trail is mostly just a fire road and tame enough for a stock Rav4/Subaru.
if they're open in the winter, then maybe they'd be more fun with the addition of snow. if you're planning a trip, let us all know.

Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) is for hiking/biking and in most places is single track.
Maybe your buddy is referring to Tahoe's west side where the Rubicon comes out? You can drive from that area towards Tahoe City on trails/dirt roads. Part of that area is known as Blackwood Canyon, doable in most any high clearance vehicle.

Blackwood Canyon is a fun little trail. Took my 100-series on it last summer since it's not "real trail" worth yet. It was fun until I made a wrong turn at an unmarked intersection...ended up at a surprise dead end in a VERY tight section of trees - I still don't know how I didn't end up with body damage from that squeeze and miracle turnaround.
