SoCal to Florida and back - hopefully lots of offroad in the middle
Prepping my truck for a ride from SoCal to Florida to see my brother for a while. Since the streetbike is in the shop getting a new motor (long story, a sparkplug came loose - not my handywork), figured it would be great to take the 4Runner out east and back, wheeling along the way. In the spirit of my motorcycle trips, I'll report back how things are going. You can find me on ADVRider (also edeslaur) for those into road and offroad trips.
Along that line, I MAY take my dualsport on a hitch hauler to do some biking along the way. Or not. It does kill my departure angle. When I get to FL, it'll be all about swimming with the sharks, fishing for dolphins and manatees... Oh, wait, that's backwards!
The Truck: 87 Turbo 4Runner, 33s with a Blazeland long travel and Zuk in the rear, ARBs at both ends, and a winch. Still looking for the rear Deavers and Total Chaos Caddy II/III front on fire sale (though I have the TC idler and steering).
Here's Rev 1 of the map:http://goo.gl/maps/pKHec
I have buddies in Tucson and in Houston I want to see along the way, and always wanted to go to New Orleans. Possibly Atlanta if I can work it in for some buds there.
What should I not be missing along the way, which sections can I turn into offroad or dirt rather than pavement? What kitschy things should I see along the way? Love the redwooods, White Sands, etc. But the world's biggest ball of string. C'mon, how can you say no?!

Sounds like an awesome trip! I'm sure there are plenty of off road spots along the way, as well as some good Yotatech members to wheel with. Takes lots of pics and keep us updated
