1982 Rebel Edition 4x4 Value

Hi everyone. I bought a 1982 toyota 4x4 rebel edition from a a person I worked with a few years ago. He was the original owner who still drove it to work 2-3 times a week. I told him to let me know if he'd ever sell it. Approx 1 year ago he called and sold it to me for what I feel was a good price. It has 144k original miles is mostly original. It runs and drives great. The a/c was working but it currently needs an evaporator. The body has a few patches of the rust here and there. No rust on the undercarriage. My plan was to restore the truck, I get comments often when I drive it. It's been in my garage for a year now and it's time for me to make a decision...keep it or sale it. Any idea what it may be worth in its current condition? Thanks. I attached a few pics.

Here's another exterior. I feel it's in good shape for it's age. It absolutely runs great, so I see myself repairing the body and painting then replace the wheels and tires.

Red face

Just what was this??

A local dealer option ??

First I heard about anything like this .

Yours is the only one I ever saw in pictures or in person.

Something like this is worth what ever someone is willing to pay.

I don't know much about the option other than what I've found on the Internet. I located one in the UK and saw a few postings on other sites. It is a florida truck so maybe a southern thing.

No "maybe" about it. Southern thing. In fact that paint job would take away value anywhere else, since the first thing anyone would have to do is paint it before they'd be seen driving around in it

It's not fun to hear...but yeah, it's worth what someone will pay for it. And it depends on where you live. It would sell for anywhere from $1,500-$3,000 in the western US, is my guess. It is in nice shape. Maybe a couple thousand more in the midwest and east. On eBay? Who knows. Could go for more, but not much.

Thanks for your input. I think the Dukes of Hazard was popular during that time. just a possibility...ha. I'd repainted it solid red. I'm going to get a few paint quotes. I don't want to put too much money into it and make a bad investment.

I hear you. Yeah, considering what it is, it's actually fairly tasteful. I mean they definitely could have "confederated" it up a lot worse than that.

If you're going to sell it, I'd say it's not worth a paint job. If you're going to keep it, anything that seems worth it to you is worth it. I spent probably $6,000 on my 83, getting it rebuilt and spruced up. No way I was ever going to get half of that back if I ever sold it.

Which I did. But at the time, I figured I'd never sell it, and wanted it to be a nice vintage 4x4.

It was a Southern Dealer Option Package...there was one on ebay awhile back with 22k miles on it...if I remember correctly he had a "buy it now" price of 10k.....not sure if it sold or not.....yours looks in decent stock condition, especially the engine bay.....would have the most interest in the South, my guess "as is" would put it in the 5-8k range to the right person. Cool truck but wouldn't go over too well up here in New England...

Crazy. Sometimes I think I should have driven my truck out to the east coast to sell, and rode a greyhound back...

Any more than $2,000 and you won't get any calls where I live.

There is info on these trucks somewhere around here I am fairly sure I read what dealer sold them first and What about them made them different. I wan't too say it was a mirage package with a different paint. Nice trucks.

Thanks for the info guys. I waxed the front fender today. I was surprised how much shine it brought back. The original owner installed the aftermarket grill in the pic but gave me the original. I'm going to swap it out. If anyone is interested in the aftermarket you can have it for free, just pay the shipping.

This truck would be worth a lot more if you detailed it rather than painted it.

That's what makes me unsure of what to do...leave it in original condition or repaint it. I'd probably sell it for to the right person for a decent price. I look at it as a time capsule...ha
