Toyota 22r insulator removal

I just installed a Weber 32/36 in my 1984 Toyota pickup. The instal went great and it runs with no vaccume or fuel leaks. The only problem I am having is now that I took the air intake off that came with the stock carburetor, my insulator box is just shooting hot air into the engine bay and I am nervous to drive it to far. do I have to take out the box and instal the exhaust manifold gasket? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

That is the "air injection" system it sounds like. Depending on the emissions version, Cali is triggered electricly or the vcv on federal. And yes if you want it clean and pretty you need the block off plates.
