sway bar ? trouble
howdy
my girlfriend has been borrowing my dads t 100 lately
(he is out of the country and she drove him to th eair port in exchange)
she said it had a strange squeeking sound
so l took a ride and didnt hear the squeek but the passenger front suspension felt all floppy/bouncy like a blown strut or something
so l stuck my head under there and this is waht l found:
l managed t pop the bushing rizer thing back into it's hole
and the flop went away but the squeek came back
(it has since popped out and been pried back into place)
my question is, is there supposed to be some sort of keeper nut
there isnt one on the other side
seemes clear that the bushings need to be replaced
the passenger bolt too (if they arnt a unit)
what are they called?
what else might have gone to cause this?
(how do l check it)
oh and the oil all over everything
appears to be power steering fluid
and tips on finding/repairing a leak in that system?
thanks in advance

Do yourself a favor, even if it is not your truck but you will be working on it, and go right to the Energy Suspension end links.
The stock hardware has a tendency to rust together, weaken and drastically reduce its design capability.
You will want the 9.8125 in Red (R) or Graphite (G) for the end link kit.
You can also get yourself the bar bushings in 9.5164 which are greasable - they are only a few bucks more than the non greasable version (which I cannot remember the part number for).
This will make a very noticeable difference and likely stop your clunking/squeek, unless of course there are other issues.
As far as your leak; you need to powerwash/clean everything off before trying to diagnose where a leak is coming from. You can keep an eye on your fluid levels to take notice since it could easily be brake fluid or something else too.
Wash it off, then check it soon after.

thanks noahrexion
l'll look into the energy suspension endlinks
ps fluid was low, and there were fresh red (hydraulic fluid looking) drips
which seem to originate near the ps system, any way l'll clean it up and take a look
Leviticus6432 like l said in the op
(i.e. it isnt held on on the other side either, is something missing?)
thanks

yeah autozone/kragen sells end links for sway bars... easy fix. I'd just pull the sucker off though. front sway bar removal was one of my first mods to my 4runner.

any way l installed new ones
and my dad is back at the helm
so l dont know if the handling is better/worse whatever

The ride will feel pretty sloppy, and if the truck isn't driven off road on a regular basis, I would really recommend you just replace the end links. On road, keeping the sway bar is a pretty good idea. It reduces body roll, and helps keep the truck stable in turns.

When I first got my truck years ago I built some quick releases for my sway bar based on a mod I saw on 4x4 wire. That way I could release them when wheeling and use them on the road. Then on the way back from baja I forgot to install the pins to make the sway bar active for the highway, and I could not tell the difference at all, so I took mine off completely. Of course my truck is heavily modified so perhaps when its stock you would notice more effect. I would also check your other suspension parts. I installed heavy duty torsion bars so perhaps that negates some of the roll effect of no sway bar?

My sway bar is at the dump. My torsion bars are cranked, and I didn't feel the difference with or without it after the bushings blew it. It came off in pieces. It off-roads better now, too, without it. Just don't do anything rash at high speed with the steering wheel.
