tail lights not working please help...

Hey there, first post woot

Alright so i got a 1988 4runner 22re 5sp. Heres the issue, 3 days ago coming back from the mountain my taillights all of a sudden stopped working. By tail lights i mean the lights that are on when you are driving so people can see your back in the dark...

so reverse lights work, rear brake lights work, and rear signal lights work.
I've checked the 15A fuse under the dash on the drivers side and it was fine.
and i checked both bulbs and they are legit.

asking all you yota techs what im missing...
is there another fusible link that i have missed?

or possibly a night time running lights switch that i somehow turned off?

any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

the wire(s) on my '93 passenger side like to wiggle loose where they contact the bulb assembly. check there for loose wires.

thanks bro...

are you talking about behind the right(or left) rear light assembly? where the wire is connected to the middle clear light? or which ever is the taillight?

Whoops. I was thinking about my Euro-tails I have on there now.

But take the tail light off, and there should be a plug right behind it. check for loose contacts there.

so i checked the wiring to the lights behind both rear light assemblies and everything looked normal, no loose wires or faulty connections

HOWEVER, i did check the bulbs again and noticed that the passenger side tail bulb is a milky Grey color as opposed to being full transparent. However the tail fuse is still good.

if one bulb blew would that not mean that the other should still work, or that the fuse should have blown?

The first click on your light switch should turn on all the marker lights, gauge lights, license plate lights, and taillights. If your rear marker lights and license plate lights come on then the problem lies somewhere back there...possibly a bad ground as the taillights are bigger bulbs then the markers and the markers may still work with a subpar ground. If none of those work then the problem lies in your combo switch or possibly near or at the fusebox
