Remote wire 4 87 4runner

Ok I need your help guys and girls. I have a 1987 4 runner ,just the other day I installed some fog lights on the truck and every thing went great @ first A few hours later we went to the store on it and the radio quit working . Today I today I took out the radio to see what the problem was I figured out that I'm not getting power to the Remote Wire . I don't know if it's fused or not ,but I checked the fuses anyway . Has anyone ever had this problem ?? Could the wire possibly have a fusible link somewhere ??

Thanks for the help.

Where did you run the positive line for the fog lights to?

The Radio positive wire @ the fuse block . Is that bad ? I've also haven't had any running lights on the truck (for about 4 months ) I think that might be the light switch tho . Thanks for the Help Bro .

I would say that your lights should run through a relay and use a better power source such as the battery.

I would have , but I wanted to ran it through the ignition because my mom drives that truck more then I do .I figured she'd forget to turn the switch off or hit it accidentally .(I just didn't want her to get stranded with a dead battery ) I ran it trough the ignition so when the key is on accessory it will give the fog light switch power ,so if you want to turn the lights on you just hit the switch . .

I just can't figure out why the Remote wire quit working .

You can still have the fog lights relayed and have them shut off automatically. How I wired mine was to tap into the parking light circuit for 12 volts to turn the relay on (via a switch). Then the relay feeds power to the fog lights. This way the fog lights turn off when I turn off the head lights (or parking lights).

I would avoid pulling any power from the radio circuits, I had all sorts of problems with the radio wiring in my '85 when I first got it. PO had messed it up and I basically just insulated all the unused wires and ran all new ones for power and ground. Before I did that, I had problems with tail lights going out, dash lights not working right, etc.

What do you mean by a remote wire. You mean the feed in the acc position for the radio? THe power source?

P.S. Thats the way to wire your relay correctly by the way.

Yes that's what I mean , The remote wire for the radio I believe it stays hot all the time ,just has A low voltage to like save the channels on the radio . It surprised me because I never messed with the Remote wire when I installed the fog lights .

It's like one think goes out after another , The tail lights went out awhile back then came back on . Now They've been out for about 3 months , I've checked the ground wires and everything else I can think of . Does anyone know if there a tail light relay?
