85 4Runner Power Window Headace

OK guys I have a 85 toyota 4runner sr5 and I have been battling a weird issue with my passenger side power window on my 4runner. I can get the window to roll down from both the driver and passenger side switch but not roll up. Driver side window works fine goes up and down with no problem.

I have been doing a lot of research to find someone that has had a similar problem but I have not made it to far. So far I have bypassed my power window relay using the 4crawler trick with no luck, so relay is good. I have manually tested the regulator with a 12v batt and I can get the window to roll up and down. Also I have disassembled both switches and cleaned the crap out of them with no luck. Now I have resorted to pulling the door harness and testing for any bad wires.

I have noticed on some of the newer model 4runners and pickups the master switch is a little different it also has door lock switches were mine does not. It is simply 2 windows up and down. Also reading some of the newer model vehicles have a black control box under the dash were mine does not either, unless I cant find it.

The odd thing is, is that I am getting 12v when i press the up button on the switch on both the driver and passenger switch but i get nothing from the regulator, its like I am having a ground issue somewhere. I have the wiring diagram laid out on my work bench and I have been trying to make my way through it but at this point I'm lost.

If anyone can shed some light on this or has had a similar issue at this point anything will help.

Your getting 12 VDC read with a Meter ??

What voltage do you get at the motor ??

The track and the window regulator are lubed so you have no added resistance ??

The right window switch has two sets of contacts which you should see on your schematics.

When the switch is in neutral the contacts allow the master switch to control the window .

When the right window switch is used it uses the other set of contacts .

if either of these are not making good contact windows don`t work.

A window motor getting old and tired might not work through the harness but seem to work fine when voltage is applied direct to the motor

** in the past I have had some that only work with the engine running

Your getting 12 VDC read with a Meter ?? Yes I an getting 12vdc at the regulator

What voltage do you get at the motor ?? its in the ballpark of 12v +/- 1v I can get specifics here in a bit

The track and the window regulator are lubed so you have no added resistance ?? Yes the window moves perfectly using 12v supply directly to the regulator

Im also getting 12v to the regulator using the master switch in the up position. Ill get some pics too so you can see what I'm working with.

If your getting voltage at the regulator there is a short

The regulator is what the electric motor attaches to

it is also possible there is a broken wire in the harness coming from the right door.

The ground for the windows is on the left door post.

So here is a picture of my passenger door harness pulled out of the door, I pulled it out to get a good look at the wires to make sure there was nothing funny going on. With the test leads hooked up like this I have nothing on my meter.

When I run the my leads to ground off the regulator plug I get 12.13 in the down position.

And I get 12.12 in the up position

Also is this the ground for both windows or just the driver side?

Both windows they ground through the Master switch

Because the polarity changes to reverse the motor

The thing is you have no idea what might have been done before you had the truck .

Your lock switch is in the closed position ?? not that it is open

Do I have a lock switch? the only lock switch I can think of is for the rear window, if the lock switch was on wouldn't the window do nothing?

As of right now it goes down perfectly just not up.

Whats weird is it was a one day it worked and the next day it didn't kinda thing, not quite sure whats going on.

My next question is if both windows ground through the master switch, why with the master switch disconnected to I have the same meter readings as listed above?

The schematics your using are for the correct year ??

I can now see a big difference between the 85 and 86 prints
