Thought that was the whole point of this thread? You don't want a depreciated payout. You walk in say I've got this much into it and I want that much plus whatever another is going to cost, they say OK you pay Xxx$. In the case of an incident you get a new base and all your investment..

Fine well cared for Toyotas do not depreciate they gain value..

All insurance companies will try to get one over on you.

When you're not at fault in a traffic incident this is basically (I could get a lot more detailed if you want) how to deal with insurance companies. What the other guy's insurance company values YOUR VEHICLE at is irrelevant when their guy is at fault. I've settled several incidents in my old vehicles and have gotten back way more than the ins co or anyone else valued them at. I also got MY vehicles back.

Well I had an 85 Toyota pickup that was mildly build locker gears springs and tires. Very clean inside. About $800 in to the steep in the late 90's and my insurance company said it was worth $2,000. I balked and got them up to 4,500 I think. If I had stated value I would have paid about more but got my money back to build another one. No way with out stated value insurance can you come out even on a built old rig.

I had more money in the gears and locker and clutch than they said the truck is worth.

I have the same issue, the carbs and intake on mine go for about $1500 new now, add in the tires and wheels and I have more right there than most people who really like old Toyotas would pay me for my truck, let alone an insurance company.
I also fully understand your previous post about the lake Samamish area. I lived the better part of my life in the LynnHood (not quite so hood anymore, sorta sad). Had to drive through Mill Creek a lot and between the overzealous cops (I got my first speeding ticket there, for doing 3 mph over the limit) and the expensive cars driven by idiots too important to pay attention to the road, well, I was VERY careful.
I still come over to visit family often and I do miss it some, but every time I hit the I-90 / 405 interchange I remember why we left.

Also, just noticed that if your "handle" is any indicator of YOUR vintage, we rolled off the assembly line the same year.
