HELP!!! Mechanic Quote
I have a quote from a machanic for some work on my rig. My 4Runner is a 98 2wd SR5:
- Rear brakes $431
Replace shoes (under 10% left)
Replace cylinders
Clean & lube insides
Bleed the lines
Machine the drums
- Clean throttle body/injection system $89
(massive carbon buildup)
- Transmission flush with some machine & BG chemical mix $169
(never been cleaned/flushed since 1998)
Is this practical pricing? I'm getting 10% off all labor because I know the guy, but wanted to make sure that this is an OK deal. I know that mechanics have to make money... I just don't want to get screwed. Advise is welcomed.
Erik
Does any of this sound fair? I don't know much about any of these things.

Dang....I'll do your rear brakes for $300! Shoes aren't that hard to replace...just remember where the springs go and all the other small pieces...but thats why they made a manual for! You will have to get your drums turned at a shop...but thats about it. The rest seems reasonable.

There are roughly 130k on my runner... sounds like I got an OK deal then. I don't mind paying for work as long as I'm not getting screwed for several hundred dollars.

do you see leaks from the rear? likely the cylinders wont need replacing and unless the drums are thrashed (grooved), they probably dont need to be turned (all extra $$ to your "friend")
