YAY, SAS time!!!
i don't think that's an 82/83 axle...it should have a gusset on the bottom long-side of the axle, like here:
whereas the pre-82 axles have no real gussets, and the 84/85 axles have the most gusseting from the factory.
either way, it's not like gusset kits don't exist

Hmmm I dont know. Since I'm not in a hurry, I might just wait till I find something with some factory gussetting. Like I said, I don't want it to be a mind set, or something I need to worry about... I want to be able to drive the truck knowing I'm not worried about the axle bending.

79-80 no gusset
81-83 axles are the same gusset wise..mid gussett
84-85-gussett extends to spring mount..
Mak-read my post above about upgrading the disk-you can't do that on a 79-80 axle..I am not sure if it can be done going the IFS hub widening kit..
I would pass

if you're in a rush it's worth 250. if not, just wait - they pop up all the time especially in our area with such a big toyota community in the Sierra's-region. i bet you could call up any toyota fab shop and they probably have 3-4 of them sitting around in their piles that you could buy from them. i know the guy that worked on my truck did and we talked SAS for a while but i don't think i'm gonna go that route with my truck until i have a piece of property and a shop to work on it myself...or if i win the lotto...

ASCO manual hubs if stock means 79-80
And no gusset
Axle housing is fine I guess bit wheel hubs are useless.
Maybe for $100 and find 81+ wheel hubs.
Manual hubs themselves in decent shape worth $100-150
For $250, no.
I hate it when folks sell crap and don't know WTF they are talking about.

Yeah im in no rush what so ever. I would've picked it up if it was really an 83 axle, but its not a heart breaker. Toyota solid axle and wagoneer axles pop up all over the place around the sacramento area.
Yeah if he told me like 100 bucks, come get it. i'd be down in a heart beat. I'd just swap newer knuckles/hubs. and call it good.
There's a fully built 85 axle on Craigslist right now for 1,700... lol 4.88 gears, locker, welded gussets, hi steer, and chormoly 30 spline axle shafts. still would rather buy one for cheap, and build one up in my garage.

So i put off getting an axle, but then came across a 1989 FJ60 front axle complete hub to hub for 300 bucks... if the guy replies to me, I'm definitely gonna hop on it. I've been really looking for a wagoneer dana 44 or the FJ60 since they're both IFS width.
anyone have any objections to an FJ60 axle?

Yeah. I can only use a 74-79 Wagoneer axle, i believe. Its somewhere in those years.
Im half tempted to hop on this fj60 axle though. only 300 bucks, and its complete

Back from the dead!! I figured i'd revive this thread because i need some input on this subject. There's an axle i want to jump on for my truck because eventually it will be SASed!!
According to that^ these axles here are 81-83(top) and 84-85(bottom), right?
