Tires? Size?

I have an 83 ish cab truck with the 22r on propane and 36's and stock everything else. I plan on new 5.71 ring and pinion with 4.7:1 t case twin stick kit. I was just wondering how big a tier I could run before it'll snap stock axel shafts. I also plan on hydro stear and cromeolly shafts as well. Thanks for the input and advice

All depends on how you drive it. But generally 35's ish are about what most have really good reliability with.

I know guys that ran 38's and 40's with no problem. Yet there are guys that snap them with 35's.

On propane how much more power are you generating? I don't know so I ask. These little motors are not monsters at all stock so I think that why guy can get away with huge tires at times.

Anytime you go that big if you wheel it your going to eventually break something. Just a matter of what. Sorry I'm not too helpful. I only run 33's when I build them. The lockers and armor get me the rest of the way. I like a low COG.

Good luck hope this helps some.

Thanks for your input thefishguy77. I actually just put the propane kit on it and I haven't had the time to really run it long enough to tell yet to tell you the truth I didn't know it ran till I put it on propane I got the truck with two jumbled up Carboraters and no fuel tank or lines for $700. This is my first 4cyl I've had a few 3.0's. sorry I couldn't answer your question but some of the guys I have talked to around the house told me that they got a little more power if the mix screw to run a bit rich is set right. I hope I was able to help

if your going to run 5.71s and go wheeling, be prepared to replace the gears often as they are weak, especially if going 4.7.1 gear box. Reason is the lower gear you go the less pinion teeth to ring gear contact you have. I wouldn't go above 5.29s for serious wheeling. 4.88s are better and 4.10s are the strongest, you dont get the reduction of course so its a trade off. If it was just a pavement pounder id say go for it but being you mentioned the gearbox i assume you want to off road. Dont do 5.71s

I was not told that thy were weak. What makes them weak? Are they weaker in the teath or what is weak about them? Or is it just the number of teath mesh?

Yes its the number of teeth that mesh, pinion to ring. If I remember correctly a 4.10 has 10 teeth in contact, 4.11= 9, 4.88 = 8, 5.29 = 7 or 8? And 5.71 = 6 teeth, making them the weakest choice and not recommended for off road. Search pirate 4x4 "toyota bible" and scroll down to "gears" they have the info posted there.

Edit, its under "differential- gearing"
