Suspension Lift for 01 4Runner

Im trying to figure out what kinda lift I want and know it's going to be getting new shocks and springs all around. After research Bilstein 5125? I want 3 inches of lift in the front and 2.5-3 in the back. What kind of setup should I go with? What springs and shock combinations should i get? I heard SS has really good front diff drops also. I wanna try to fit either 285/75/16 or 33x12.5 without a body lift. But i hear you need a 1 inch body to fit those with some minor trimming. should i also replace the control arms also? ive got about 112k miles. Thanks

In december I put 3" OME spring lift on my 01 4runner I bought from Toytec lifts. Having stock bumpers front and rear I went with the 881s frt and 890s rear. If you buy the 3" lift it will come with a top out plate that is 1/2 inch thick for the front. Everything that I read had people talking of getting less lift in front than 3". I made and installed a 3/4" top out plate. So my 01 has OME 881s and 3/4" top out plate on front and 890s with pro comp extended shocks on rear and I got 3 inches front and rear. However, 4000 miles later the front has settled about 5/8 inch. I tried a buddys set of 285/70-17 BFGs on aftermarket 17x8s and did not rub at all on the street, but not much room for offroading. I would suggest also a 1" body lift. I made and installed it myself in my garage. you will want a 1" steering extension. Also put on the 1" diff drop. They both are cheap insurance. Good luck

Oh and the ride is MUCH better than stock, slightly firmer but in a good way. I am not running a rear sway bar. Planned on making some brackets to put it back on, but have gotten used to the slight body roll. Not suggesting anyone to drive on the highway without it though.

With 3" up front on a 2001 4Runner, you'll also have to lower your differential quite a bit or your CV's will take a beating. Steve at Sonoran Steel recommends 2" max on the front of a 3rd gen 4Runner. Even their 2" lift comes with a 1" diff drop spacer. With the SS #1.2 or #7.2 system alone, you can run 285/75/16 on stock wheels without a body lift.

The 3" OME lift that i have is around $380, extended pro comp shocks are around $80/pair, (though you don't have to have them. just gives you more flex). Diff drop is $30. That takes care of sus lift. 1" body lift is anywhere from $120-$200 depending on where you buy it. I made my spacers and spent $20 on grade 8 bolts and another $25 on the steering ext. I put the Suspension lift on in about 3 hours with another set of hands helping, and BL on in about 2 hours without help, (very easy). As I mentioned before the ride with the 881/890 is much better on and of road than stock. Keep in mind my 01 factory height is the lowest of the 3rd gen so I hear. My understanding is that the stock 01 springs are 1-1.5 inches shorter than other years, so other year 3rd gen 4 runners will most likely only get 1 1/2- 2 inches of lift from the same springs that i put on mine. Hope that I have helped you.

GSGALLANT, As to the 3" lift. If I read correctly during research the 2001 4runner came from the factory with a 1 inch lower ride height than any other 3rd gen. So that should mean that mine now with a 2-3/4 inch higher ride than stock would only be about 1-3/4 inches taller than other year 3rd gen 4runners. I do plan to keep the front sway bar connected when wheeling to help minumize the front suspension from extending as one side unloads. Should have the 285s on it by next month and taking it to moab after easter.

You're right. '01 and '02 (not sure about '00) 4Runners sit lower from the factory than the '99 4Runners.
