Picking up engine to remove oil pan??

Hey guys I have an 87 truck ifs 22r motor well.. The infamous timing chain guide struck it's not total broke off just started breaking at the top. I need to pull the pan as I'm doing the new chain and guide job I want to clean it out . Some people say that picking the engine up isn't enough .. However the truck has a 3in body lift so with that being said would you recommend lifting the motor or loosen the pivot bolt on the diff and remove the two vertical bolts? Btw it's a manual tranny so no lines to crush.

If it were mine, and I measured many times and thought I could clear everything, I would definitely try it. Just be careful and have someone watching everything up in the engine compartment to make sure you don't pinch, cut, break, or crush something. Wires, sensors, hoses, etc...
