Oil pressure sensor...dumb.

Turned on my truck today (22r) and the oil pressure dummy light was flickering at me. Did the obvious fluid check, then took a look at the oil pressure sensor on the block under the oil filter and saw that it had no wire connected to it...I am a noob, but even so, common sense dictates if the sensor were connected to my dummy light it would have to run through some sort of wire. That being said, does anyone have a picture of how it is supposed to be hooked up? (search and Haynes manual weren't much help for something this basic)

haynes manual should have a wiring diagram. maybe you can find the size and color of wire thats supposed to go to that thing.....after that maybe you could locate the wire that connects to it

Taking a closer look at the wiring diagrams, it appears to be a yellow-black...can anyone confirm that?

If I am looking at the correct wire, not sure how it is supposed to go back into the sensor. Guess its an excuse to upgrade to a gauge...

Ya still have to hook the gauge up to the sensor, if you go w an electrical gauge. I have the same problem and my 4Runner is currently in the garage waiting on a new radiator and water pump. I thought my sensor went bad but then I found out the wire broke off the plug. I will check it out first chance I get (color of wire) because I ordered a new sensor anyhow from rockauto when I ordered everything else and I am going to pull my sensor off to look at the plug. I figured I'd play it safe with a new one. So I will keep the old one as a spare. If you are interested, here is the sensor I went with. It wasn't the cheapest, but that's how I roll.

Thanks Dave,
I felt like I was going crazy when I saw that dummy light going off and seeing the wire wasn't even connected. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I will check out the link to the sensor you purchased, and I really appreciate the reply.

I still haven't received my parts from rockauto yet but I went out into the garage and checked out the oil pressure sensor wire: it's yellow with what appears to be a green or blue stripe. But it didn't look black. I wasn't dressed to really get in there and see. When I get the old sensor out, if you want pics, let me know.

*EDIT* I have some downloaded manuals on my computer and it says the the oil pressure switch wire is yellow with a blue stripe. Let me know if you want pics of anything.

TWIMC- I'm looking for the oil Pressure Sensor connecter. Several pics online and in Yota tech. Its a one wire plastic-rectangular piece with a U-shape receiver that slides over the nipple tip (about 1/4' round) of the sensor (just below oil filter). Toyota parts dept. says they don't sell the plastic connecter/pigtail. Can you help me?

If you have the wire, you can use a typical spade connector to go over the nipple. Unless you're a purist, then to the wrecking yards you go...
