My bronco that I had well that's another story. I didn't have enough confidence in my rig to attempt this trail other than going down that above mentioned hill. And even then this same person "talked" me into going down the harder of the 3 downhills. Even surprised LINY on the way.
oyah i underestimated my truck at first then i was like wow i cant belive i made it lmao. i found my open diff 31" rocking toyota to be not too bad untill you get that one tire off the ground and its like oooo sh** lol gets annoying but i never doughted my driving ability. i figure with a mild sas and a couple lockers i will be stable and be able to have a fun time crawling. i just hope this guy learns what i have learned

i wish the op would actually post back here again? maybe he read through the thread and is now re thinking what he said lol
To tell you the truth the only toyota body style I liked the look of is the one I got now. Not because of the Solid axle. At the time I bought the Toyota truck, I had at the same time a full size bronco and a bronco II that the boddides were too far gone and were sitting on their frames. I "needed" a vehicle at the time and it had to be a truck. Not necc a toyota. Just had to be a 4X4 5speed. My travel to work warranted a 4x4 up a mountain. WHy did it have to be 4X4, because I have gotten stuck in 3"s of sand in Hawaii with a 2wd chevy c20 at one point and gotten yanked out by a 4X4 suzuki sami. From that time on I vowed never to drive a 2wd truck again. My experience with getting stuck showed this. Why a 5speed? One reason only, better on gas mileage. And with a little practice off-road now with it, I think it's easier to control. Would I have bought a 5speed if I didn't know how to drive a stick? No. Why would someone buy something and not know how to properly use it? That just wastes money.

I pondered a few vehicles till this toyota came up. I already knew the rep the 22r and 20r motors have and how reliable with the proper maint they can be. Why? 1: I had a 77 celica in highschool. 2: a school teacher of mine had a tercel wagon with no joke 300,000 miles. Again chose the toyota because of previous experience with toyotas and the fact of Needing 4X4 and a 5 speed to save on gas.

Not going to be a broken record, the guys have spoken on right and wrong reasons to sas. But I do think one must consider the cost of this undertaking. Figure something like:
200-400 for sfa
cost to rebuild the axle
ifs eliminator kits (for sake of ease)
custom driveshaft work
labor (if paying someone) figure 12 to 14 hours minimum.

This list is an absolute bare minimum for sas, not account for sfa mods (longs, lockers, man hubs if not an 84/85, ect), bigger tires, matching rear lift. The list goes on.

If you are serious about it, I suggest you get to know you local fabricator, chances are he wheels lol. I met a local who wheels a yota tube buggy, quoted me for labor on a sfa at 25/hr. Most shops around here charge 90 to 100/hr. Start networking, it pays off.
