All pre-'95 4-cylinder 4wd mini-trucks & 4Runners use the Toyota 8" 2-pinion differential rear (except turbo models). This is known as the "4cyl diff." This diff is by far the most common diff in older Toyotas. These are 27 spline axles.

'86-95 4cyl Turbo and V6* trucks and 4runners, and ALL '96+ 4Runners use the Toyota 8" 4-pinion differential in the rear. This diff is known as the "V6/Turbo diff." These are 30 splines.

I was under the impression that all rears were 30 spline. and the fronts were 27 spline. But i could be wrong

this is a 4cly spool that is 30 spline.

Pretty sure all rear axle shafts are 30 spline. I got several sets sitting out. I'll count tonight.

I don't see anything conflicting in those.

The spline count on the first link is referring to axles.

The second link says 27 spline pinion and does not say anything about spines for the axles. Though, directly under it, it states the V6 diffs have 30 spline axles and 27 spline pinion.

The yukon spool states "Yukon Performance 1-11/16" deck steel spool for Toyota 8.0" truck with 30 spline axles" and the description is "Toyota 8" 4 Cylinder, Full Spool, 30 Spline"

The gear code or G292 confirmed, 8", 4.10, 2 pinion open.

Here's your spool.

You've got 30 spline axles, dude.

all toy diffs take 30 spline axle shafts.

only front toy shafts neck DOWN to 27 spline for the birfield but the other end of the shaft isnt necked down and is 30 spline to slip into the toy third

Uh-huh, like he says. (not that it really matters...but my 88 has the V6, axle code G292, and has a 4-pinion 8" with 4.10 gears...axle codes can be wrong...mine should be G294)

Not quite right. Close though!

Front & Rear Solid axle = 30 spline axleshafts for all 8" rear differentials. Front 8" axleshafts are 30 spline inner(differential end), 27 spline outer(birfield end), 30 spline stud(hub end)

Front IFS axle = 27 spline stubshafts/side gear shafts for all IFS 7.5" differentials

IFS CV halfshaft = 27 spline inner shaft(at the inner tripod and outer birfield-type joints), 26 spline stud(hub end)

Just went out to the shed to count the splines on my spares, got both kinds 7.5" IFS & 8" rears. Triple-checked and CONFIRMED!

Nice clarification Mudhippy. IFS has been erased from my memory; did a hardwipe reset to 000's to try and rid my brain of IFS intel... it was corrupt and took up to much valuable brain storage space had to go after SAS hehe

:-p
