Question Gabriel Shocks for my 4R?

I spent a bunch of time searching/reading about shocks and haven't found a good answer.... ...I need new shocks for my WIFE's 2000 Limted 4Runner. It's totally stock and will never see offroad.....unless driving across the front lawn is considered "offroad" !!! I read where everybody said to go with the Bils, but I know the wife will not like the ride...it'll be too stiff.
Anyway...My buddy at the local Carquest store has Gabriel Ultra's...they are priced under $185 for the set of 4. Seemed like a good price to me.
So....Does anybody know anything about Gabriels? I didn't see anything about them during my search...Any and all input is welcome!
Thanks

I actually installed Gabriel shocks 2 days ago on my 90 4runner. Made a huge difference. Definetly improved the ride over speed bumps, and improved stability around corners. The old shocks were tokiko possibly the originals. 185 is a little high, I think autozone was 31.99 a shock.

Just put the air version of the Gabriel shocks in my 2nd gen this weekend. Extremely easy install and worth the $60 (rear's only from Autozone). Air'ed them up; and no more rear sag for me.

Air shocks rock! Soo good when towing and hauling gear. Love em. Best mod I ever did.

Sorry for a stupid question,
But when you aired them up dose, it makes it stiffer ride or it only lift rear of the truck?

very little change in ride. It just gives you more suspension travel.

Go with Skyjacker Nitros, about $35 each. Nice ride.

If not going for anything 'special' (KYB, Bilstein, ....), IMHO, most of the others are similar...Gabriel, monroe...

I had bad luck with no names from NAPA, as they wore very quickly (on a diff vehicle)as opposed to the originals. I dont think you can go wrong with the Gabriels for the price - you will think the Gabriels are even better than they are if your existing shocks are shot. If they are not too bad - you may not notice a huge difference because they arent anything special. How many miles on the 4R?

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but just wondering if the original poster installed the Gabriel Ultra's? If so, what is your impression?

I bought some Tokico TM's from ajusa.com, but just got an email saying the fronts are out of stock until late December. :rolleyes

I am just going to go with Gabriel Ultra's for a lot cheaper. Plus, they've got a lifetime warranty on those.
