could be timing chain slap. did you inspect the chain guides when you were in there poking around?

no i didnt timeing chain slap huh i dont think ive actually even hurd of that is that from the chain streching or something along the lines of that

its pritty noisy too i took a stethoscope and felt around a lil but it didnt sound like the chain but i could be wrong

if the tensioner is wore out the chain will hit the guide, or if the guide is broke the chain will hit the cover and wear a hole through the cover. Could also be the start of a rod knock as well. Which will almost act like timing chain noise as well. both you can usually will hear on start up when oil pressure is lower, also at higher revs or when lifting on throttle to slow down or shift.

Is the noise like a ticking that doesn't go with the engine revs or firing at all?
Cuz it's probably your timing chain guide broken and getting chewed up inside your cover, lol.

its a high pitch tick i have no idea i hope its nothing that bad but with my luck it probably is but it didnt start untill my dad adjusted my valves wrong u think doing that could cause major problems like that? im gonna try and get a video and post it later when i get off work then maby that will help narrow it down a bit

this is probably gonna be a dumb ? but do u have to remove the head to replace your timeing chain?

no, but if you do it with the head on, you just have to be careful with the part of the head gasket that seals the head to the timing cover.

you could alway take the valve cover off to see if your getting any of the chain slap.. its only 4 nuts that need to come and some vacuum hose..

so i tryed to get the video but u cant here anything so i took the valve cover to take a peek and you guys were right busted chain guide so i ordered parts and began taking it apart b4 it got any worse i snapped some pics the chain also ate up my timing chain cover a bit too

everything came apart pretty easy ive never taken the timing cover off before w/o removing the head but it worked out nicely thanks for the tip xxxtream22r

if the guide has already broken, your gonna have to drop that oil pan to clean it out as there will be shards of plastic if not pieces of the timing cover in there. You don;t want that stuff floating around.

yea i know i have all the bolts off of it now its just hang in on by the gasket ill end up taken it off and cleaning it up later im ordering parts from ted at engnbldr tomorrow but i was wondering is the metal guides better then the plastic ones? i hear mix reviews about both

I put the metal one in mine, no problems so far, but I only have about 6500 miles on my rebuild.

ok so i got it all done 2day finally had a day off to put it all back together i got a new timing chain cover off of ebay for 35.00 lc high performance oil pump 100.00 H/D timing chain kit from engnbldr for 58.00 and oil pan/valve cover gaskets plus water pump from local auto zone it runs smooth no noises at all but doesnt seem to have quite as much power as before i have the timing set at 15 degrees advance and idle at 875
