diff drop

i am looking into a toytec lift for my 02 tacoma. i was thinking of going with the 2.5 OME coils and long aal in back. i was wanting to use the diff dropp kit they offer but got to looking and they only supply 2 bolts and spacers. the same with sonoran steel. in the FSM it shows the diff bolted on in 3places. 2 in the front and 1 in the back. do i need a spacer for the back? what kind of problems with his present? its seemes to me this would just spin the diff instead of lowering it. thanks

The axles come out of the diff near the center, so lowering the front end down does lower the axles and reduce the CV joint angle.

Sure, it would be better to lower the rear of the diff as well, but that requires a more elaborate (i.e. expensive) bracket kit like is used in the 4"-6" lift kits. Since the rear mount is horizontal, it is not as easy to lower, thus the higher cost of the taller lift kits. So the diff drop kits are an economical way to lower the CV joint angles a little if you experience problems with them with a lower lift.

Sure, if you have the skills and tools to do so, go for it. Best advice, though, is to just put the lift on and see if you have any issues with CV boots tearing or CV joints wearing out. If so, consider installing the basic diff drop kit and if that fixes the CV joint issues, great. If not, then have at the rear mount.
