For fun, my girlfriend and I went to myCARFAX.com and put in the VIN of our trucks. I was surprised to see that in January 2003, the website states that my truck passed emissions in Washington and they wrote that the truck had 250,000 miles. I bought it 2 years ago and the odometer was around 150,000. So did the PO pull a fast one on me? Is there a way of inspecting certain parts for wear that can give me a clue if the truck has indeed 100k more miles on it? She runs smoothly and the temp gauge never goes past halfway, I just want to know for my piece of mind and maintenance schedules.

I guess it's possible that CARFAX is wrong, but a 28 year old truck from the mainland is likely to have more than 150,000 on the clock.

The cluster probably has been changed out, or the odometer tampered with, but if it runs well and you did'nt pay three prices for it, you're golden.

I would think either a typo or a changed cluster.

They (county clerk's) don't seem to care what the odometer reads. They don't even look at it in some places. Last time I had to change title States the Only thing she looked at was if I had removed the old plates, the rest they just asked the question and waited for me to answer.

Guess they might have looked if I would have said Ten miles but probably not..

Now of course there is that US federal law that says you have to afix a plate inside the A-pillar and list the old and new odo mileage. But noone in my experience ever does, or cares, or looks for one. They only use it on vehicles they can tax fully.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just thought that people would be more honest. I am stoked about the truck, I just wished I knew about Yotatech or even checking out the VIN before I pulled the trigger on this truck so I could've haggled a bit more on the price. Live and learn, I suppose. One day, maybe I'll even post something not in the Newbs section.
