1992 22RE w/ EFI bogs down (momentarily) when applying brakes.
Hey all,
Finally decided to just join the site since a lot of my info comes from this site.
On to the pressing issue, I have a 1992 Pickup (base) with a 22RE in it. About to roll over 236,000 miles. The other day I found that the timing guide had broken so I decided to change the entire timing set and head gasket (and also new fuel injectors). Quite a pressing task considering I work 50+ hours a week. But I got it done, timing chain is on good, head gasket and all other gaskets are perfect. No leaks from oil pan, etc. I have my distributor timed good, and idles rather fast (still working out minor gripes).
After I rolled it out of the garage, started right up, let it warm up and did my look around for leaks. None. So I got in the cab to drive it down the street. I depressed the brake pedal (hard) and the engine seemed to bog down and then just as fast as it slowed, it picked right back up.
I don't know what this could be seeing as I have never had this problem before. I have read about brake boosters and fuel pumps, but all on carbs. The only thing that comes to mind would be a vacuum line, but I tagged them all before removal.
Sorry for the long post, any info/tips/ideas would be great. Thanks!

(Brake Booster)
Hey, you more than likely have a bad brake booster which may have been caused by a bad master cylinder that is letting fluid leak into the booster. I just recently had this same issue as you and when I removed my booster it had tons of fluid in it which meant the master was leaking so you might want to change both also you will want to look at your brake booster check valve it should be located along the firewall of your truck at least it is in my 86 Toyota pickup. Good Luck!

If there are no big vacuum leaks in the booster, it sounds like your idle speed is set too high. Read all about it in the 2nd Q&A below:
