1987 Toyota Hilux 22R-E (rte) build questions.

Hey im a 16 year old kid from Hilo, HI that just moved to illinois. I got a 87 Hilux that im trying to build up and obvioulsy make nice. Its the 22r-e so its a 2.4l inline 4 turbo. It is in good condition with no rust on the undercarage and good cab. The bedsides are of course terrible like on all rusty yotas. So just would like some general info on hese trucks like wat to look for. The oil pan was leaking so i replaced the gasket. That sucked i thouht i culd just unbolt it and slide it out. Ya that dident happen. Both diffs leak and so did tranny. Fixed all that. So just any one out there that knows what to look for on a 25 year old truck please comment. Oh and i only get arround 10mpg when it should be arround 25. I think it has a vaccuum leak witch is causing he o2 sensor to get wrong readings. Any other opinions?

Welcome to the Forum.

I suggest you start reading the threads .

Trying searching for specific questions .

Look at maybe replacing the brake and fuel lines .

The vacuum hoses also get hard and brittle as do the battery cables.

Good luck:wabbit2:
