Program a 2006-07 4runner key fob

Hey all, i was gonna drop this in a new thread. i bought a replacement key fob off ebay and all the instructions i found here on yotatech didn't work for me. so the ebay seller sent me instructions on how to get it done and it was significantly different than what i found on here. Just wanted to get these instructions out there to help poor slobs like me. and when you program it , dont think about this too long, you have to scoot through the sequence at a pretty good pace.

1. Driver's door open, key removed from ignition switch.

Within 5 seconds:

2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch twice.

Within 40 seconds:

3.Close and open driver's door twice.

Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch.

Within 40 seconds:
4.Close and open driver's door twice.
5. Insert the key into the ignition switch and close the driver's door.
6. Switch ignition ON and OFF once to program a remote transmitter code while retaining the original codes or twice to program a remote transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes. Three times to check how many remote transmitters are currently registered or five times to erase all registered codes.

7.Remove key from ignition switch:

System should now lock and unlock vehicle once, twice or five times
depending which mode has been selected. One to four times, slowly, to
indicate number of remote transmitters registered.

Within 40 seconds:
8.Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 1.5 seconds

Within 3 seconds:
9.Press LOCK button.

System should now lock and unlock vehicle once to confirm registration,
twice to indicate registration has failed.

Within 40 seconds:
10.Repeat button procedure to program remaining remote transmitters.

SIDE NOTE: To exit programming mode: Open driver's door.

SIDE NOTE: A maximum of 4 remote transmitters can be programmed.

Hope this helps someone.

both of my fobs simultaneously decided to stop working.
So I know it is not a battery or transmitter failure.
I put a new battery in one of them just to be sure.
I cannot successfully complete the programming procedure.
I tried disconnecting the battery for fifteen minutes just o be sure everything was reset
It still will not complete successfully.
What about fuses that might be related?

Any ideas?
thanks in advance

What the dealer did

I had no choice but to contact the dealer. They had after all, just re-programmed my ECU and offered kindly to review the programming just in case it showed an issue related to the key fobs/security etc.
They concluded that the firmware upgrade had nothing to do with the key fob issue.
I agreed to go for one hour of diagnostic time. they assured me that after one hour they could tell me what was wrong, then I could opt to effect the repair myself or have them go for it.
They ran the diagnostic as per the door lock TSB. They decided there was an open from one of the pins in a connector in the driver's side foot panel to the module that receives the key lock signal (which is located in the panel in the rear window post (on the driver side by the power window).
That would be a wire in a harness which runs under each door sill and over the rear wheel (all inside the vehicle) to the module. They had not removed the panel near the module, but using a magic continuity tool came to this conclusion.
They let me meet with the techs who showed me the prints and circled the pins for the supposed broken wire.
I asked if they jumpered the bad connection to prove their theory. They had not.
I decided that I could take the time to complete the repair, since they were asking for $100 per hour for at least two hours, open ended estimate, to complete the repair.
How a wire could become separated when it is not in a harness that ever moves, seems doubtful to me. I understand if it was in a harness through a door and was hinged or bending all the time, over and over. but a static harness?
Anyway they readily agreed to put it all back together for me and let me finish it myself.
They even did a car wash, and the car was pretty clean to begin with.
Then while I waited for all this to be done they told me that somehow it now worked fine.
My key fobs actuate the door locks, and so far (5 days later) still do so.
An interesting side effect was that my VSC lights were lit.
I fixed that with the YouTube video procedure involving the paper clips in the code reader jack.
Now all is well. It speaks to the folks who refuse to go to the doctor because they wish to leave well enough alone.
