Do you creative, outside the box thinking types, think it is plausible to load a full size F250 truck bed on TOP of a 1988 Toyota pickup and drive it 20 miles? It's gonna hang out on all sides, I'm aware
I think the Yoda can handle it ,(about 400lbs, I think) but, how would you strap it down. Please be kind. And yes, I do know that I should get a trailer, (no lights/plug) here's where I sit. ....
I have a big truck and the bed is rusted through in places and the tailgate is crappy,so I've been keeping an eye out for a nice bed. Found it, stop looking, lol Bought it for a great price. Had no idea truck beds weighed so much. Been around and around trying to get it home. TWO MONTHS LATER I have found that people don't want to work (tried to hire help) and that I have no friends. So before you bash me, try to understand my position. If you're curious about how I'm gonna do this by myself. ......think camper Jacks. .....

I might would look into running some 2x4s across the top of the Toyota bed and set the Ford bed on top. I have never tried it but is what comes to mind. The Toyota bed will have some loops inside the bed that you could fasten the Ford bed to. I don't think 4 straps would be enough. Can you take back roads home? Slow speeds?

I am buying a 76 F-150 this coming Thursday. What year Ford bed you buy if you don't mind? Going to be my next big build.

Oh, and, thank you for the comment! ! I hadn't gotten that far in my head yet, (working out the larger footprint bases for the camper Jacks ) but great advice! !

Rent a uhaul trailer for the day it's cheap enough especially if you consider what could go wrong...

if that's not an option consider building a small frame that would go in back of Toyota with tailgate down so you have the entire length of the ford bed secured. 2x4s across the top as mentioned then "legs" to support them (so lil Toyota bedsides aren't taking the full load) and tie into a "T" at the end of the tail gate. Then strap it good and drive slow

Make like 4 of these with 2x4s and 2x2 legs

If u put the 2x4s on there side they will be much stronger

Then tie them all together with like a 1x2 and it will be solid. Or use scrap wood whatever you got to make some type of make shift platform especially for the length out past the bed rails

It is not that heavy

Put a few slings around the frame attached ratchet straps pad where there are any sharp edges.

This is a once and done not like your making a career out of hauling truck beds !!

Not like your going to Prudhoe Bay from Key West

two by fours ( 2 or 3) across the top of your toy bed, load it up with some good rachet straps.
i have hauled several beds on top of a pick up bed over the years.
i wish i had a pic of my old 84 with a 1/4 ton jeep trailer sitting upside down on the bed of the truck, hauled it 500 miles with out any issue

Lol no doubt I have a tendency to over due things but my only concern would be supporting any overhang hence a wood frame don't have to get crazy about it and buy all the wood new but if you have some scrap laying around might as well. Although really 8' bed on a 6' bed should be fine.

The slings around the frame as strap points is genius! Thanks Wyoming9 I will certainly keep that in mind in the future. Always hauling all sorts of crazy stuff although I have a lil 4x8 trailer so use that most of the time.

I have hauled many beds with my trailer. I stick some concrete blocks on the trailer and I have enough tie down points on my trailer and enough on a truck bed to haul safely down the highway at highway speeds. This shows how I do it.

Trailer is the best way to go about it. They are cheap to rent and you avoid possible complications.

either way you go (trailer or haul stacked on your bed) you will need to figure out wider trailer mirrors so you can see behind you.
also make sure you don't end up blocking your brake lights.

is your truck wired for trailer lights?

The toy does not have trailer plug
1) I don't do electric, so would have to pay for it but more importantly is
2) the toy came to me with screwed up wiring. The run lights are on when the key is on, so I'm pretty sure that the trailer plug is going to open a can of worms :/

I had this picture in my head. ....wouldn't it be comical if I could hook up the load bed's taillights? Haha what a sight!
You would think that I would know someone with a trailer, wouldn't you? :/
I almost hired a tow truck driver. He wanted $150 but then I would still have two beds that I couldn't move. So the camper Jacks seemed to make more sense to me because I can use them to R&R both beds. I want clean up the frame with a wire brush and paint on rust converter. I'll post pics when I get to it so everyone can have a good laugh. I know I will. Like I said. .......Luuuuuucy lol

Dont camper jacks bolt on? So would leave holes in the bed. Maybe they have other attachment options chain or sling

if you have it towed you can always use Dolly's to move around the beds. Do u have a cherry picker/hoist

How about removing your F150 bed, driving to where the new one is, and just bolting it on then driving home?
