Yotateachers, let me know if I just had an awesome idea (long post)
Been looking a lot lately about swapping in a 1UZFE with a standard transmission, because I want to do dual t cases.
The problem is, as many of you know, the bellhousings/adapter plates to do this costs buku bucks and are only in the UK, Australia, or New Zealand. Not to mention the custom flywheel. Making your own plate is damn near impossible because no one has diagrams of the bellhousings.
But today I was looking a Pirate4X4, and I came across this automatic shifter.

I'm thinking, "Man, that pretty much gives you the best of both worlds. You can shift into neutral to slow down on long hills or avoid stressing your brakes in Low/Low, or into reverse to keep the front down if you need to."
I know that one isn't for a Toyota, but ignore that for now...
I then realized, "Hey, the 1UZFE uses the same transmission as my 4Runner, the A340E."

Then I thought, "Hey, Marlin makes an dual case adapter for the 3VZE", which has an A340E!

Finally I decided to look for a shift kit for the A340E and found this

and this, unfortunately, also in %$#@% Oz

This could save me a lot of money...Somebody please tell me if they can follow this train of though and think this setup would be a good idea or not...

Yeah after more research I'm finding that my trans is an A340H, and I need it to be an A340F to work well with the t case doublers...I think.
Has anyone ever done a 2UZFE swap into a 4Runner? Because I could get a wrecked Tacoma with a 2UZFE and a A340F behind it and be good to go...Torquey-er engine too.

Inch Worm makes a dual case adapter for the A340H. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...fer+case+mount

I have done tons of research on this and here is what I have found.
The A340H model transmission shares its fluid with the transfer case and because of this it is a poor choice for anything you want to put duals behind or use for rock crawling. All of the fluid goes to the back of t-case starving the transmission.
The 96-02 4Runner/Taco A340F can be used too but its t-case is a left side drop so you need an adapter to mount a standard right side transfer case. You also need the Bellhousing, Torque converter and pump from the Lexus A340E to bolt to it. Even after this the electronics are different and I am not sure how difficult they are to work out. (more shift solenoides in the lexus tranny)
Another option is to use the the lexus transmission and use the 4WD output shaft and tail housing from the A340F. This solves the electronics issue but still requires both transmissions to make one and the adapter to convert to right side drop. It also requires complete disassembly of the tranny to get the output shaft out.
This final option and the one I am using is this. Use the the Lexus A340E transmission that came with the doner engine. Then get Inchworms Prerunner adapter which was made to convert a 2wd Taco to 4wd. It bolts right to the Lexus tranny because they are the same as the 2wd Tacos. It lets you use older standard 21 or 23 spline transfer cases. You have to cut the output shaft on the Lexus transmission but the procedure is the same as with the Taco tranny and almost no disassemby is required. The adapter is a bit pricey but in the long run is probably the cheapest overall way to do it. I'm not done with my swap yet but I know the adapters bolt right up.
