Good day homies and homiets, the head to my 22re is going to the shop soon. I'd like to mill it to ensure its flatness. While its in there, I'd like to bring up the HPs. I have no idea what an appropriate amount to shave off the head is 3/1000ths? 10/1000ths. Guidance would be appreciated, thank you In advance. Party on.

Ask the machinist at the shop you take your head to. Depending on how much needs to be decked to true the head you may not be able to take any more off.

Shaving a head to boost compression for horsepower is a delicate balance. You'd be better off spending $90 for an engnbldr cam with a more aggressive profile.

My head was milled 10/1000ths to make it flat. I guess I'll need some slicks for the rear wheels..... should I get a wheelie bar? Couldn't resist

I'm pretty sure i get an extra 5hp at the wheel since went bald!

Your not going to pick up any noticeable gains from shaving the head. My advice would be to remove the minimal amount of material to get the head flat. Probably 0.008 or somthing close to that. Truthfully it's not going to rais compression significantly enough to matter going any thing more then what you need.

Hey welcome to yotatech

depending on how you shave off might need adjustable cam gear. Shaving head or block throws off cam timing so adjustable cam gear compensates for this.

Also if u really want the most out of your 22re look into camshafts it will help increase useable power and move power band (up or down depending on your application or driving style) and pretty good prices.

I suggest ENGNBLDR he has 261 cam for peak torque down low and others for mid to upper power. Plus a chat with Tod would really help point you in the right direction.
