okay, so my e-brake handle CAME OUT of the housing yesterday. the cable didnt snap, the handle just came out. is it pretty easy to put the cable back into the handle and reinsert the handle into the hole? god i think i have freaking gremlins in my truck.

'02 Tundra for $4,500? You might want to look into that and do some research before you buy it - that sounds WAY too low.

Don't give up on your truck man - everybody has issues and a lot of times they come in waves. Once you get them figured out and fixed you'll probably be set for a while.

Hang in there man,

Fink

The handle pulled completely out, but the cable is not broken? That seems impossible to me. The cable simple cannot fall out the back of the handle with A. Being broken or B. having the lock tabs disengaged.

Also, the tab for the "Brake" switch that controls the warning light in the dash SHOULD have stopped the handle from coming all the way out. So sounds like you have two problems. I just replaced an E-brake cable for a guy around here, and he needed the handle assy too, as his did exactly what you are talking about.

The remnants of the broken cable likely fell out/off when you pulled the "Incredible Hulk" maneuver

i did it as i always do..... im thinking i should just get a whole new assembly anyway since when i rebuilt my truck i broke the latch that caused the ebrake light to turn off, so now i always have the ebrake light on.

The latch piece is what i was talking about. With the cable gone or broken, that little tab is what keeps the handle from pulling all the way out.

Naw, you can put it back. But since that little tab is busted/MIA, i would suggest just getting a whole new handle assy from a wrecking yard.

it sucks getting it back in...people say magnets, screwdrivers etc. i dont even remember how i got mine back in, but i think it was with a screwdriver.

I did learn the most important lesson though...NEVER PULL THE HANDLE ALL THE WAY OUT lol

goodluck. Oh, and heres my awesome thread with pics of the pawl mechanism that prevents the handle from going back in easily

btw: you're lucky. usually everything on my truck breaks when its less than 20 degrees out, and snowing

theres a little tip in that thread too about how to use a bolt to replace the pin that you're missing
