WTK: Trying to decide on header 22re..

and I did the search. My previous headers was the Downey for the 22re. Last purchased back in 2001, so almost 14 years with the same headers before it developed pin sized holes where all 4 of the pipes go into the center part at the bottom.

The holes are in a spot very hard to reach.

Was exploring just doing a LCE headers or the Doug Thorley Headers. Not interested in the NWOR or the Trails or the Riggers or whatever.

Exploring for kicks and giggles the OBX also.

Long time reader and lerker.

I did the search function and it is all over the place on different opinions and some of the threads are old. So wishing to start a new one on why you went with the headers you have now and how long has it been and lasted.

My truck is a 1986 4runner on 22re with rebuilt head from engbldr, running 4:56 with 32 size tires and limited lift. Just basic but really love the truck.

Really sad Downey is gone though.

As for performance, the difference will be negligible.

I chose DT and am happy. Ceramic coated, nice thick flange, good looking welds, direct bolt up to my stock cat location. I've only had to re-tighten once shortly after installation. It's been on for two years now.

In the end, you spend your money and you take your chances.

I have LCE headers notice a small amount of extra power at highway speeds, but I would not buy headers again, especially if the manifold doesn't need to be replaced.

I am running Trail Gear headers. Combined with a high flow intake, I can feel a little difference. My shift points changed, can go up a hill in 4th instead of 3rd etc...don't expect anything major thought, but they sound sick.

I have the Thorley headers and I like them FWIW.
