WTH is this, and why is it leaking??

I have fluid, pretty sure it's brake fluid, all up under the rear, looks like the source is this weird gizmo, I've never seen anything like it on any other vehicle. Can someone please dispel my ignorance as to what this is/does, and why is it leaking all of a sudden.

thats a bracket that changes the break bias when the truck is overloaded... IE: the rear squats, the bracket rotates, brake bias chages

dont know the real name for it, but to my knowledge that is it's function

the thing bolted to the passenger frame rail that has 3 brake lines to it is called a "load sensing proportioning valve" or lspv. Is that what is leaking?

Google it to read what it does.

Some people take all the extra stuff off the axle and wire the arm of the lspv in the upward most position.

it changes the break bias when the rear of the truck is loaded down (IE: squatting)

the problem is that it doesnt account for saggy ass old springs

Its called a LSPV or Load Sensing Proportioning Valve, its one of Toyota's not so smart ideas in my opinion. They usually leak, fail or clog. I have mine adjusted as aggressive as possible and its just barely enough. About the best thing to do is convert it to a traditional proportioning valve like a Wilwood 260-12627. Summit has them for about $45. Some guys completely rip them out and run without them but I don't think thats a very good idea. I don't want to pay for someones rear bumper or worse just because my rear brakes locked up and I slid into someone. I plan order the wilwood and do mine here in a week or two. There are write ups here on yotatech some where.

Thanks for all the help, I have a deal working for a parts truck with brake, steering, and lift parts, as well as a 5-speed set up, (thought I'd like not shifting gears, but not at the expense of having any performance) I'm sure in the midst of all that I'll do away with it. I plan on a cold air intake and header as well, when I installed those into my S-10 2.2 I started getting 4-5 MPG more, and a bunch more power!
I gave that to my son, but he was more interested in the Yota, too bad, LOL

i may be old fashioned... but shouldn't you be focused on Driving... and not browsing a forum? just as bad as texting while driving.

on topic:

never installed one of these, or even worried about my LSPV... i might just get that wilwood PV and rip out the old LSPV since it has so many problems.

you do know google now is the voice recognition feature (among other things) in android based phones right?

I get what your saying being a distraction and all, but its not quite like "texting" since I used speach recognition
