Toyota greenhorn

I am the least bit mechanically inclined but my 1995 toyota tacoma 4x4 4 cylinder 2.7 liter wont start I just here clicking when I turn the key. I didn't leave the headlights on or anything so I don't believe the battery is dead. My speedometer cable broke prior to this and is still broken I am waiting for the part to come in. The engine light came on after the speedometer stopped working. The speedometer broke on Saturday the 14th of June 2014 & now it wont start today Wednesday the 18th of June 2014. Any suggestions? Thanks for reading any advice would be greatly appreciated

Have you had your starter removed and taken to checker/O'Reilly or a parts store for testing?

Inspect the battery terminals for looseness and/or corrosion. Check the battery electrolyte level. And, as mentioned above, have the battery tested...low voltage (sometimes caused by a dead cell inside the battery) will cause the rapid clicking.

I concur with the gentlemen above. Bad batt. or loose connections. Starters go bad too but usually show signs of wearing out first. If the batt. is older than a couple years, that's gonna be it. Good luck.

Which then brings up, if it is a dead battery, check out your alternator as well. The alternator could not be charging properly.

Far too advanced, too much work and too expensive to do before checking the simpler items first. I;m sure O.P. would enjoy doing this and finding out it is not the problem. AND IF, and only IF, you take it to incompetent or dishonest shop they'll tell you starter is bad, sell you replacement, and problem would still not be fixed.

Keep it simple, unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.
