won't start

Ok guys, new here. Did a head gasket on a 91 22re. I put her back together.. all wires connected, timing chain on, oil and coolant in.

I go to start it. It cranks but won't turn over....

no idea where to go from here.

No spark possibly, or could it be something I did while replacing the head gasket??

please help, trying to sell truck for a buddy just need her to start

Check your distributor, it may be 180 out. Thats the most common problem.

But start with the basics: Air, Fuel, Spark. Does it have these three elements?

When you put the dist. back in, you should have set your engine to 0' BTDC, and the rotor in the dist should point to #1 in the cap. If you didn't set the dist timing, you need to pull it back out. Its almost impossible to install the dist without taking off the cap, to see where to rotor is pointing.

one more thing.. the first time we tried to start her.. she wanted to turn over.. but nothing but a pop on the intake side.. and a cloud of white smoke.. since this.. no more smoke.. could this also be a problem? where would it have come from?

The pop and smoke is from being out of time

There is a ground that connects to the intake. It easily hides itself, comes out of the wiring the injector wires do.

Pull the dist, set the crank to 0, and reinstall the dist with the rotor pointing to #1. You have to make sure the engine is on the compression stroke (ie both valves closed) this can be done by taking off the valve cover, or just guessing. If you guess, and it still doesn't start, you just need to switch it 180

i'm back.. she runs thanks to deathcougar.. thanks again man.. it was the dist.

now she runs.. but really really rough.. a real high idle and jumppy. I need to adjust the lifters cause i tinkered w/ them when i put the new cam in.. but could this make it a high idle and jumppy??

or is my timing off?

but, she runs.. that's what matters no i must work out the fine tuned stuff
