Wiring in Electric Temp gauge... lighting help

I just installed an electric water temp gauge. Having trouble getting the light to work. I tried hooking it up to the cigarette lighter light, but it wouldn't work. Any other suggestions of an easy thing I can tap into so the aftermarket gauge lights up when I switch dash lights on?

Thanks

The aftermarket stereo I have in there is always on... no dimmer. Just the power wire. So I don't think that would work... thanks though

Is there any way to get to this wire without removing the stereo, ac panel. i.e. Is it running under the steering wheel somewhere?

Check the panel where the clock would go. Mine had a plug behind the knockout. I took a test light and found the illumination wire for it and that is what I used for my tach. Its pretty easy to get to as well.

Wink

I hooked mine up to the dash light rheostat that way I can dim the gauges with the rest of the lights

just make sure to hook it up to the correct place.
