Wire going into rear 3rd on 1991

What's the wire plugged into the rear diff on my 91 4x4? My 82 doesn't have one. Sorry if it's a dumb question.

it's not a dumb question. The wire is for your ABS sensor. Your '82 didn't come with ABS.

That makes sense now. I was getting ready to swap axles, because my 82 has an ifs rear and both axles in that truck is locked up with 5.29s. Was thinking of throwing the built axles under the 3rd gen. Now the real question, should I just swap axles and disconnect the ABS, or try and load my gears in the 3rd Gen housing? Would that be too hard for the results?

There's something special about the 4.88 gears and housing combo. Not sure if they'll be a direct swap in.

I believe I have 4.10? I didn't do the SAS so I'm learning about this rig as I go.

Okay, you can't swap the gears into your current third member, but you can swap third members between your axles -- I think: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116.../#post51209951

Sorry, I have the 4.88s and am keeping my 31 tires. Just tyring to help.

I appreciate any input. I think it would be best just to swap axles completely and scrap the ABS. Clearly don't have it up front anymore as is.

RSR, his 91 didn't come with 4.88's. OP, you can put the rear 3rd member from the '82 into the '91. But you can't put the front 3rd member of the '82 into the the '91. The IFS diff is smaller than the straight axle diff, so you will have to have the '91's front diff re-geared.

The 91 is SAS'ed, so I'm actually just going to swap axles. I just rebuilt the front axle on the 82, so there's no question there as to just swap the whole front end. The ABS was my concern on the rear, but is a moot point considering ABS was lost up front for the SAS.
I think I'll just swap the full setup front and rear and tie up that ABS sensor out of the way. I really appreciate all your input. Makes life a little easier when you can ask a hundred people the same question.
