Wiper Upgrades?

I have a '90 Pickup DLX and it only has two wiper settings, well three, OFF, low, and high. That's not enough!

Has anyone ever tried upgrading to a newer switch with more settings? Or done something custom?

that's a good idea. I've never thought of that but it would be nice to have some more settings on my truck's wiper function. Mine on the other hand has three settings that each can be tuned from slower to faster with the second switch. So basically i have slow with three extra settings, medium with three extra settings, and fast with three extra settings. So it's basically a dual switch with variables for each speed. Scribed to see what others think. But to be honest i'm pretty satisfied with the function the way it is guess that's why i never thought to change it. Maybe yours is different.

how about putting a new motor in the runs faster? a long with a new switch

Use RAIN-X if yours don't work good enough..it's what i use in my '86 and my '96 dodge..and i hardly ever use my wipers.

i even put it on the side windows and the back window of my '86 lol

I hear the delay wipers setup out of an SR5 is a direct swap. Supposedly all that has to be swapped is the wiper switch in the steering column

SO I'VE HEARD

I've never personally tried it, but always wanted to

It can be done, i converted a base model 84 4Runner over to intermitent wipers and it was easy to do. You will need to swap out the wiper switch and add the relay box that`s required for the intermitent wipers to work.

i bought some decent wipers once.
then i hit a mudhole, got a ton of dirt on them, then the mud froze overnight, and the stupid things dulled like crazy

Hmmmm, I have a 89 DLX and my truck has an intermittent setting. Were some sold like that, or were they swapped in somewhere along the line?

Mine has intermittent, and it's also DLX.
Probably an option the PO wanted

Very good info. I saw that jumper when I changed my heater core.

Thanks for all the other replies too.. some good info going now. Dunno why some DLX's didn't come with it, but it's definitely needed in Alaska... Two speeds is not enough!!
