Angry Windshield Wash Button CAUGHT ON FIRE!!

Scary thing happened to me while driving...
I was holding front winshield spray button on my wiper switch and the button started to get hot while I was holding it in. The wipers started but there was no wash fluid spraying onto the windshield. The button got so hot that I couldnt touch it anymore, but unfortunately it stayed pushed in and started to heavily smoke and melt and then popped out (thank goodness as I was driving at the time). The spring behind the button was red hot. I examined the end of the wiper switch and took a piece of metal to make the contact again and the metal just heats up. The wipers turn on but no fluid squirts out. The rest of the wiper lever and the intermittant wiper functions work fine.
Is there something wrong with the button or switch or do I have a problem with the washer pump like some short or something? Any help on this would be great!
Thanks,
Mike

haha, more than you might think my father had a 99 Dodge Ram that did the same thing...

but yeah it's still some crazy ish... best bet would be jsut to pull a combo switch from a junk yard like yoterr said

now might be a good time to upgrade to the delay wipers from an SR5 too from what I read, all you have to do is swap the switch out right?

That was a Dodge though, no electrical problem is surprising there.

As for the original switch on fire problem I would check the pump before just putting a new switch in. You'll probably find it's siezed which caused the currect through the switch to increase enough to melt it.
