Windshield glue?!?!?!!

The chrome piece around my windshield is pretty much gone. I need to get this fixed. Anyone know what the glue is they use and how I would go about replacing it? The windshield isn't cracked or anything just leaks bad!
Thanks
Woody!

If it leaks, it may have rust around the ledge under the windshield. The window should be taken out and inspected and replaced. I don't know what it is called though sorry.

I think it is a urethane glue. You should be able to get a new chrome piece through a local windshield shop, but the top piece slides over the glass and might be pretty hard to replace without removing the windshield.

Yeah if it leaks, then you actually have rust holes or gaps in the urethane glue.

Yeah, so either fix it yourself or take it to a windshield repair shop.
All you need to fix it is a hot knife to cut the urethane, then take out the glass clean off the old urethane, then fix whatever is wrong and glue that puppy back on.

If you have full coverage (I know most of us don't on these trucks) you may only have to pay a deductable even without it being broke. This is what I recommend, take WS out, take care of rust issues if you have any. If your chrome is in good shape you could buy the clips from the dealer. when you are ready for the WS to be installed call a company tell them you already have the WS out and need a new one installed. This will give you negotiation on the price and make sure the company has a lifetime warrenty. You could also negotiate the clips after you settle on a price.

If you have severe rust grind out to down to bare metal and treat with naval jelly. Leave it bare for the installer they have the right stuff to coat it. A professional installed new WS is worth the price.

The glue is urethane WS adhesive not to be sold to public but the WS company will probably sell you some anyway. It is about 10-14 a tube it takes 2. BTW I installed mine myself but the was the last windshield I installed when I worked in auto glass.

3M Window weld is what you are looking for

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...gl1ZRC9RGN5Fbl

You probably need to cut out the windshield, as others have said.

You'll need a ribbon seal aswell otherwise your windshield will be sitting too far in the cavity.

I just did this on my 92 4runner. Windshield was leaking like a sieve. Now it's all sealed up. Just make sure you cut out all the old rubber and sealer. Get rid of any rust. Then lay the ribbon sealer around, place the glass in, and then window weld it. Your trim is then put into place BEFORE the window weld cures. Also make sure you don't slam the doors for a couple of days. The pressure could potentially blow the seal out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

You can get both those products at autozone. Total; about $40.

I don't recommend doin it yourself, we put the windshield that's in yeehaw now in ourselves using autozone windshield glue, and have been fighting leaks ever since...
We didn't use a "ribbon seal" though, didn't and don't know what it is lol (haven't clicked the link yet...)
