Why Is My Transfer Chain Case Filling Up?
Hi, folks,
I just got done rebuilding the A340H in my '90 Toy 4x4 and I am no novice to these things but this one has me baffled and Pissed!
I have now coated the entire underside of my truck from the tailshaft rearwards with fresh ATF. The rebuild was done with quality parts and due diligence. It seems as though the chain case is filling up so much when I am driving that the fluid is spraying out of the small hole on the chain case. The small hole adjacent to it on the chain cover is fine.
WTF??
WHat causes the chain case to overfill?
Anyone had this issue?
Thanx!
Bud

I'm not to great with tranny's, but I recall a gasket between the trans, and transfer... ya sure thats in good shape? Its supposed to keep tran fluid and transfer fluid separate IIRC.
But like I said... Transmissions are not my forte....

No, I think I have an answer for you. I am about to post my finding with my own tranny issues on my thread. go to

I will wait for the findings.

I replaced every single part in this thing. The way that it is filling up is a pressurized leak and not a little trickle. I am thinking possibly that the accumulator in the case or the sealing rings on the front support are bypassing. It is possible upon assembly that I could have screwed one up. I dunno. All I know is that it is pumping the main trans dry and filling the rear case.
I can pull the transfer apart with the tranny still in the truck. If I have to yank the whole damn thing out again I won't even bother troubleshooting it. Too much work. I'll just get a rebuilt replacement and be done with it. I'm at a point in my life where these things are not "fun" any more. Money and less aggravation go hand in hand.
Thanx,
Bud
